Description Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN) is seeking a part-time visionary Editor, C&EN - Print Magazine , to lead the strategy, creation, and execution of the print edition of Chemical & Engineering News, an award-winning magazine that has been an editorial beacon of the American Chemical Society's Publications group for over a century. The Editor, C&EN - Print Magazine will collaborate with C&EN's team of editors, writers, and designers to produce a regularly scheduled print edition aimed at expanding readers' knowledge, enhancing engagement, and promoting content sharing, while maintaining editorial excellence. The role involves working with senior management and stakeholders to develop and implement a strategic plan for the magazine's content, ensuring quality, creativity, ROI, and operational efficiency. The ideal candidate will possess editorial and subject-matter expertise, experience in creating a magazine for an academic and professional audience, knowledge of layout and design, and the ability to deliver compelling content that aligns with C&EN's and ACS's mission and values. Strong leadership, journalistic excellence, and publication expertise are essential for shaping the future of C&EN's print strategy. Responsibilities : Strategy Develop and execute the vision for a monthly print magazine focused on the global chemistry enterprise, covering topics related to chemistry, careers, and management. Oversee all aspects of magazine creation, including design and delivery, to meet editorial standards and goals. Collaborate with writers and editors to select and curate timely, compelling, and accurate content that encourages engagement and sharing. Work with media groups and stakeholders to align content with brand and mission goals. Monitor usage data, refine content based on trends and feedback, and adapt to audience needs and market developments. Partner with other ACS areas to leverage the magazine for broader organizational goals. Management Set goals and milestones for subscriber rates, engagement, citations, and content sharing. Manage the print edition's budget in collaboration with the Production Supervisor. Analyze metrics, report to stakeholders, and recommend improvements. Coordinate with technology teams to optimize production and distribution, integrating with other platforms like the website and social media. Requirements : Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or related field. At least 7 years of experience in journalism, editorial leadership, and print content strategy. Proven ability to lead an editorial team and foster innovation and excellence. Experience creating content for an academically oriented audience. Knowledge of magazine publishing platforms and analytics tools. Excellent news judgment, writing, editing, and storytelling skills. Background in sciences, especially chemistry. Interest in industry trends and new engagement technologies. Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines. Excellent communication and presentation skills. This role can be based in Washington, D.C. or Columbus, OH, with respective compensation ranges. Open to other locations including Oxford, UK, or New Delhi.
