Senior Public Works Maintenance Worker

Job Title

Beginning pay range for position : $25.50 - $29.00 per hour

Summary : Under the direction of the Public Works Director, performs full working level professional construction inspection duties, by rendering objective and impartial decisions in a firm and tactful manner for construction in City right-of-way. Interface with the public in a professional manner to solve citizen issues during Capital Improvement Projects construction. Receives general supervision from the Public Works Supervisor and Lead Worker. Performs a variety of customer service and preventative maintenance duties in the maintenance of City public infrastructure and property.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs lead work. Lead work defined as insuring jobs are completed professionally and on time.
• Directs work and provides training of Maintenance Workers, seasonal workers and community service workers as assigned.
• Able to perform all duties of Maintenance Worker unsupervised.
• Observes all common safety practices.
• Operates heavy equipment.
• Work on-call, overtime and holidays as needed by supervisor.
• Assists in directing work on emergency projects, special tasks and daily work routines.
• Read, interpret, and enforce applicable street, water, sewer and storm drainage construction standards, construction drawings, working plans, and maps. Provides technical information to contractors and the general public.
• Represents the City in the area of City codes, standards and specifications enforcement and serves as liaison between the City and contractors and citizens.
• Records and documents daily construction observations and inspections
• Supervises and assists Public Works staff with a variety of maintenance, operational activities and projects; trains employees when required.
• Interacts with Public Works staff to complete job responsibilities and special projects.
• Performs specialized duties independently, performs a variety of basic to skilled labor and technical assignments; accounts for tools, equipment and supplies used by crew.
• Responsible for equipment operation and maintenance.
• Receives, responds to and resolves citizen complaints and inquiries regarding construction project operations.
• Makes recommendations regarding and coordinating repairs, requirements and recommends corrective action.
• Provides oversight of contractors performing maintenance and repair activities.

Qualification Requirements

High school graduate or general education degree (GED). Five years of experience in Public Works or related field. Possess a class "B" Colorado operators (drivers) license, attainable within six-months from date of hire. Certification in Sewer Collections and Water Distribution, or attainable within one-year from date of hire. Certification as an Erosion Control Supervisor per the standards of the Colorado Department of Transportation or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Working knowledge of all Public Works policies and directives. Working knowledge of Public Works construction standards. Must be able to interact positively with public and contractors. Working knowledge of common hazards and safety precautions necessary for public works operation. Ability to read and interpret construction plans, and engineering drawings and interpret legal descriptions, plat maps, and work plans to provide technical information to contractors and general public. Adjust to changing work conditions and unexpected assignments with a positive attitude while accomplishing duties. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies, contractors and the general public.
