Health Fair Phlebotomist

Work Schedule :

Monday - Sunday, variable days and variable shifts between hours of 5am and 8pm

This is a dual-role position that encompasses participation in Health Fairs as well as the performance of routine phlebotomy duties within the Patient Service Center, as required and based on operational needs. Collects clinical laboratory specimens and performs tasks associated with patient registration, order entry and specimen processing with general supervision. Performs waived testing with general supervision. Provides logistical support for supplies to all events and locations. Provides general assistance to customers and clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Performs venipunctures ,POCT Capillary collections, collects other specimens, and explains the proper collection procedures for specimens provided by the patient. Clarifies orders and pre-analytical test requirements when appropriate.
• Performs registration, requisitions lab orders, verifies billing information, and maintains Quality Control Logs.
• Actively promotes HNL Lab Medicine's values and exhibits excellent customer relations in anticipating customer needs in all interactions.
• Travels to all Health Fair sites as assigned. Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and ensures a meticulous work area.
• Processes, stores, and transports equipment and specimens according to laboratory requirements.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of changes in specimen requirements and collection devices.
• Assists in the orientation, training, and mentoring new staff members.
• Properly records and documents necessary expense reimbursement (Mileage Reimbursement) following established electronic processes.
• Participates in the Continuous Service Improvement and continuing education programs.

Education / Experience :

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 6 months to 2 years related experience and / or training preferred.

Language Ability :

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently may be required based on service location.

Math Ability :

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability :

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills :

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Word Processing software.

Certificates and Licenses :

A valid driver's license from the state that the employee resides as well as a clean driving record. Must be accessible to appropriate and reliable transportation to perform essential duties and responsibilities. Certification required by the American Heart Association for Basic Life Support to include adult, child and infant. Certification will be provided if needed.
