Overview
The LIU Brooklyn BFA Acting for Theater, Film & Television Program is seeking a dynamic and experienced adjunct instructor to teach Stage Combat. The successful candidate will guide students in developing the physical, technical, and safety skills required for stage combat in live performance and on-camera work. This position is part-time and semester-based, with the possibility of renewal.
Responsibilities
- Teach courses in stage combat, focusing on safety, storytelling, and professional standards.
- Instruct students in techniques for unarmed combat and weapon work (specific weapons to be determined).
- Emphasize best practices for physical safety, partner trust, and emotional well-being.
- Foster an environment that encourages collaboration, discipline, and respect.
- Provide constructive feedback to students to support skill development and artistic growth.
- Stay current with industry practices and integrate them into teaching.
Qualifications
Professional experience as a fight director or stage combat instructor.Certification from the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD) or equivalent organization preferred.MFA in Acting, Directing, or related field, or commensurate professional experience.College-level teaching experience strongly preferred.Strong commitment to student learning, artistic integrity, and inclusive pedagogy.Appointment
Part-time, adjunct position.Teaching load will include one course per semester, depending on departmental need.Compensation commensurate with qualifications and per university adjunct pay scale.Application Materials
