Job Description
The Legal Advocate provides legal advocacy services for survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV), stalking, and sexual assault (SA). This individual will accompany survivors to court, provide advocacy in temporary protective order (TPO) hearings when appropriate, and assist with the preparation of TPO documents.
Responsibilities
- Provide trauma-informed advocacy to survivors of domestic violence, stalking, and sexual assault, including assistance with filing temporary protective orders and warrant applications.
- Accompany survivors to court and provide advocacy in TPO hearings when appropriate.
- Assist clients with preparing documentation for TPO filings and other court proceedings.
- Collaborate with survivors to develop individualized safety plans.
- Serve as a liaison with law enforcement, court personnel, and partner agencies by providing information, training, and outreach about the organization’s services.
Qualifications
Minimum of 1–2 years of experience in domestic violence advocacy, victim services, or a related field.Demonstrated knowledge of the dynamics of intimate partner violence, stalking, and sexual assault.Experience navigating court processes, particularly related to protective orders and domestic violence cases.Strong oral and written communication skills.Proven ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.Must have an attorney background
