The purpose of the Manager, Student Success Programs is designed to develop, lead, oversee, assess, and support various institutional signature initiatives and programs to ensure the growth of all programs and continued success as demonstrated by student persistence, retention and credential / degree completion. The position is part of a highly collaborative, student-oriented team environment and includes student staff supervision alongside program design, implementation, and evaluation. The leadership role works collaboratively with faculty, academic and student affairs, and college leadership to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that promotes student achievement.
The manager contributes to the college’s goals of increased student satisfaction, retention, and graduation rates by developing, expanding, and overseeing comprehensive signature institutional programs and services. While this position will assess and in collaboration with administration determine new programs, it will lead and support existing programs (i.e., American Indian Institute, International Education, and Mesa College Promise. Opportunities for growth and development of new programs include but not limited to : peer-to-peer mentoring, ambassador programming, etc.
321892 - Student Services Manager (Asst Director of First Year Success) (Academic Advisement) : Assistant Director, First-Year Experience and Transition is responsible for planning, operations, and assessment of Mesa Community College's incoming student initiatives with particular attention to the unique needs of traditional and non-traditional populations. The Assistant Director position is also responsible for developing and implementing matriculation efforts that support students' preparedness for post-secondary success. As a key member of the Retention team, and the role engages a diverse student body in fostering a welcoming, supportive, and inclusive environment that promotes student learning, academic success, personal growth, and connection to campus life. The position is responsible for coordinating, overseeing, and assessing a comprehensive first-year experience for students. Additional responsibilities include providing intensive, 1 : 1 success coaching to a caseload of at-risk first-year students. This retention-focused position will provide the support, knowledge, and skills necessary to facilitate student academic success, foster a greater sense of community, and increase student persistence and retention. The Assistant Director, First-Year Experience and Transition will serve as a member of an administrative team, with additional duties as assigned.
Reporting to the Director, Academic Advising, the Assistant Director, First-Year Experience and Transition is responsible for driving initiatives to support success of first-year student programming, including New Student Orientation. The position oversees the design, implementation, and management of programs supporting the transition, engagement, and success of first-year students. The role has a substantial impact on the success of college-wide first-year initiatives and provides oversight and management of signature first-year programs and leading a team of retention specialist positions. Additionally, the role assists and contributes to the design, development, and evaluation of comprehensive services and programs to support undecided students and those considering a change in their major, ensuring seamless transitions and academic success. Performs other duties as assigned.
The Assistant Director of Academic Advising & Retention reports to the Director of Academic Advising and is responsible for successfully implementing, managing, and assessing first-year advising. The Assistant Director position serves as a central resource and contact for first-year student advisors. In coordination with Academic Advising leadership, the Assistant Director ensures all retention specialists are trained in academics and equipped to provide undergraduate students with the highest quality advisement possible. This position possesses up-to-date information on MCC academic colleges, implements orientation sessions, facilitates pathways towards degree completion in coordination with colleges, and recommends standardized advisement practices. The Assistant Director will also serve on assigned committees and / or work groups to ensure they are knowledgeable about activities and information that impact the advising unit.
Minimum Qualifications :
Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education, sociology, business administration or related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible student services or related experience that includes such things as administration of policies and procedures, program oversight and two years of supervisory experience.

An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered
