As an Electrician II, you'll perform skilled, journeyman-level electrical work involving the installation, maintenance, and repair of systems up to 480 volts AC / DC. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Leadership

  • Provides input on work plans, scheduling, and project coordination
  • Performs skilled, journeyman-level electrical work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of systems up to 480 volts alternating current or direct current
  • Installs, modifies, and troubleshoots control panels, motors, relays, lighting systems, underground conduit, overhead circuits, and transformers
  • Locates and corrects power failures and short circuits
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, technical drawings, and electrical schematics
  • Ensures compliance with national, state, and local electrical codes
  • Operates and maintains electrical testing tools and specialized trade equipment (e.g., lineman tools, boom trucks, meters)
  • May perform complex installations, including fiber optics, process instrumentation, electric vehicle charging stations, and energy-efficient systems

  • Cleans and maintains shop, vehicle, electrical equipment, and personal protective equipment

    EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS : As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and / or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Completion of a formal electrical apprenticeship program
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in skilled trades or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or completion of an electrical journeyman program or equivalent, with the ability to obtain a Florida Electrical Journeyman license within six months
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Strong knowledge of electrical theory, systems, components, electrical safety procedures, and troubleshooting techniques
  • Proficiency in electrical codes, safety regulations, and risk management practices

  • Ability to work from sketches, plans, or blueprints and provide accurate project estimates
  • Capable of leading job tasks, mentoring others, and maintaining high-quality work standards

  • WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    Work Environment : 95% inside a climate-controlled building; 5% outside, including driving. Work performed indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, humidity, rain, or cold; may involve work in confined spaces, at heights, or around active equipment or in hazardous areas requiring protective gear.

    Physical Requirements : The essential functions of the job require : sitting approximately two (2) hours per day, standing approximately three (3) hours per day, and walking approximately three (3) hours per day. The job also requires frequent : bending / stooping, grasping, kneeling, reaching, repetitive motion, and lifting / carrying objects weighing up to 15 pounds, with occasional : climbing, fine manipulations, pushing, and routinely lifting / carrying objects weighing up to 45 pounds; the ability to work with arms extended over head or below feet for extended periods of time; the ability to manipulate small objects with hands and fingers. Possess dexterity and agility to work and maneuver in and around equipment, piping, or other tight spaces. Physical requirements are often performed in confined areas, while standing on ladders or other lifting devices, or in excavated and uneven areas. On rare occasions the work requires : crawling, pulling, and lifting / carrying objects weighing more than 45 pounds.

    Sensory Requirements : Hearing : Ability to detect proper equipment operation and understand what others are saying in normal conversation and over the noise caused by construction equipment in person or on the telephone. Speaking : Ability to communicate orally with others and speak effectively on the phone. Seeing : Ability to see and read computer monitor screens, operate a vehicle, and read normal and / or fine print. The ability to perform work using tactile sensory skills, without visual observation, of some facet of work. Ability to distinguish wire colors and interpret audible signals or alarms.

    Driving Requirements : Requires occasional driving and a valid Florida Driver's License. A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) may be required based on assignment.

    Technology : The work requires the ability to operate various electronic devices, including telephones, smartphones, tablets, photocopiers, printers, desktop and laptop computers, and calculators, as well as all associated software. It also requires proficiency with computer hardware and software programs, including word processing, spreadsheets, database applications, internet applications, and database management.

    Other Machines and Tools : Proficient with meters, test equipment (e.g., meggers, voltmeters), hand and power tools, ladders, conduit benders, generators, lifts, bucket trucks, and safety equipment as required.
