Summer job: Organic Farm & Community Centre

Are you interested in helping with organic herb farming, caring for a community centre, and conservation?
Hearts Content Organic Farm is a small organic farm along the rail trail, that specializes in herbs, farmstay and conservation.
Richard is a retired naturopathic doctor who focuses on growing herbs, wildcraft and making value added herbal products (salves, lip balms, dried herbs).
We focus on conservation (restoring wetlands, and planting shelterbelts, mini-forest and pollinators). We are founding members of the Langford Conservancy, and we care for the Langford Schoolhouse as an accessible rural community hub.
We are very dedicated to :
- fostering an inclusive community, particularly migrant farm workers, people with disabilities, seniors, and First Nations, and
- protecting farmland, natural areas, and water resources.
Job Description :
You would be involved in helping with the following :
- planting, cultivating & harvesting organic crops
- wildcrafting harvesting and drying herbs, and making value added products such as dried herbs, salves & lip balms,
- caring for the Langford Schoolhouse and grounds,
- caring for the grounds, campsites and farmstay units,
- small scale construction,
- planting and caring for trees and shrubs
- helping with walks and events (birding, plant walks)
- sorting and redistributing organic food,
- protecting farmland, natural areas, and water, and
- doing outreach and social media.
We are seeking someone who is highly motivated, and who has skills related to farming and tree care. We will provide mentoring and work with you.
- Pay : $18 / hour, 35 hours / week
- Benefits : organic fruit, vegetables & eggs, discount on herbal products, 4% vacation pay
- Schedule : flexible 7-hour day shift, Monday to Friday, occasional weekends
- Assets : Spanish speaking, experience with driving a tractor, comfortable using small tools and equipment, driver’s license, some experience in related work
- Ability to commute or relocate before starting work (required).
