Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of First and Second-Year Experience, the Learning Communities Specialist is responsible for organizing and supporting key aspects of the planning and delivery of learning communities at Georgia Gwinnett College. The Learning Communities Specialist designs, develops, and implements the linking of learning community courses and plans or supports learning community programing throughout the year. The Learning Communities Specialist also assists the Director with staff / faculty development activities to meet the needs of students, faculty, and staff.

Responsibilities

40% -

Independently design, develop and build the linked learning community course sections in the student information and scheduling system.

20% -

Coordinate assessment and marketing activities for learning communities and related programing.

15% -

Communicate learning community needs across campus with faculty, staff, and students.

10% -

Represent Student Success at campus events and on selected committees.

5% -

Develop and implement relevant policies and procedures in collaboration with others.

5% -

Seek and participate in professional development activities.

5% -

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelor's Degree in education, information technology, or other appropriate field.
  • At least three years of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in education, information technology, or other appropriate field.
  • Five years of experience working on college student course scheduling
  • Proficiency in Ellucian Banner student information and scheduling system and EAB Navigate
  • Experience working with college student information systems
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of trends, issues and best practices relevant to learning communities and student success in college
  • Knowledge and understanding of general higher education academic programs and degree requirements, academic policies, procedures, and student success initiatives
  • Knowledge of and ability to use relevant student course scheduling technology, such as Banner
  • Skills in verbal and written communication
  • Skills in interpersonal interactions and relationship building
  • Skills in preparing and delivering presentations
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and records
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Ability to maintain and practice professional ethics
