Position : Dry Kiln Utility
Reports to : Dry Kiln Supervisor
FLSA Status : Non-Exempt
Position Overview :
The Dry Kiln Utility is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of lumber drying kilns by performing essential ground-level tasks. This role involves preparing and handling lumber units, monitoring drying processes, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
Responsibilities :
- Laying Dunnage : place dunnage accurately to support and stabilize lumber stacks for drying and storage.
- Banding Units : secure dried lumber units using appropriate banding materials to ensure safe handling and transport.
- Hot Checks : conduct temperature and moisture content checks on lumber during and after kiln cycles to ensure drying standards are met.
- Unit Marking : clearly label and mark lumber units with identifying information such as dimension, date, and kiln location.
- Clean-Up : maintain cleanliness and organization around the kilns and yard, including sweeping, debris removal, and general upkeep.
- Assist Kiln Operations : help with loading and unloading kilns, monitor kiln performance, and report any issues or irregularities to supervisors.
- Safety Compliance : follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications :
Experience in a lumber yard or industrial setting is a plus.Ability to lift 50 lbs. and work in outdoor environments.Basic understanding of kiln drying processes is beneficial.Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or overtime as needed.
