Position : Dry Kiln Utility

Reports to : Dry Kiln Supervisor

FLSA Status : Non-Exempt

Position Overview :

The Dry Kiln Utility is responsible for supporting the efficient operation of lumber drying kilns by performing essential ground-level tasks. This role involves preparing and handling lumber units, monitoring drying processes, and maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Responsibilities :

• Laying Dunnage : place dunnage accurately to support and stabilize lumber stacks for drying and storage.
• Banding Units : secure dried lumber units using appropriate banding materials to ensure safe handling and transport.
• Hot Checks : conduct temperature and moisture content checks on lumber during and after kiln cycles to ensure drying standards are met.
• Unit Marking : clearly label and mark lumber units with identifying information such as dimension, date, and kiln location.
• Clean-Up : maintain cleanliness and organization around the kilns and yard, including sweeping, debris removal, and general upkeep.
• Assist Kiln Operations : help with loading and unloading kilns, monitor kiln performance, and report any issues or irregularities to supervisors.
• Safety Compliance : follow all safety protocols and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.
