DATE REVISED DATE 10 / 2 / 2019 (C Fitzpatrick) REVIEWED DATE (without changes) JOB SUMMARY The position is responsible for directing Sterile Processing Coordinators, Leads, Technicians Certified and Non-Certified with the assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing and / or storing procedure trays, surgical trays and equipment Also oversees the distribution and / or delivery of disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts and supplies to fill the needs of the Operating Room, Nursing Units, Ancillary Departments and SCL Clinics May perform the work of a Sterile Processing Technician or Coordinator May assigns daily detailed work assignments with consideration for staff ability, training and departmental needs ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND 1 Promotes mission, vision, and values of SCL Health, and abides by service behavior RESPONSIBILITIES standards 2 Assists Manager with the development of departmental and staff goals 3 Manages human resources to assure quality services, scheduling, and promotes positive employee relations 4 Directs Sterile Processing personnel in completion of job duties 5 Role models for current and new staff 6 Proficient in all sterile processing department job responsibilities 7 Acts as an extension of the Sterile Processing Manager by performing selected duties as delegated by the Sterile Processing Manager 8 Utilizes leadership tools in communication, including effective oral, written, and listening skills with staff, physicians, patients and families 9 Keeps all appropriate parties informed in a timely manner and understands chain of command accountability 10 Supports interventions that promote unit cost effectiveness to achieve budget 11 Collaborates with Manager and Coordinator to assess and hold staff accountable to hospital / unit competencies 12 Utilizes applications and technology to accurately facilitate record keeping in accordance with State and Federal regulations 13 Provides on the job training (OJT) to recently hired associates in the department as needed 14 Performs other duties as assigned 15 May be required to float to other departments (within the scope of competency and qualifications) based on business need 16 May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift EDUCATION Required High School diploma or equivalent Preferred Associates or Bachelor Degree CERTIFICATION, Required None REGISTRATION, LICENSE Preferred Certified Registered Central Supply Technician (CRCST) or Certified Sterile Processing (*indicates primary Department Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Surgical Technician (CST) source verification requirements)
2+ years of experience in a hospital or clinic operating room

Subject matter expert of cleaning, disinfection and decontamination processes and sterilizers.
Subject matter expert in types and functions of instruments and equipment ( endoscopic, microsurgical, robotic and power).
Subject matter expert in the technology and software applications used to track, log, document instruments, durable medical equipment, repairs, etc.
Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team.
Experience and understanding in the use of computers, as well as the ability to learn software relevant to Sterile Processing.
Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service oriented environment.
Ability to work nights and / or weekends.
Ability to work overtime as required by the departments needs.
Physical Requirements :
Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
- and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
- and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
- and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment.
Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.- and -Need to walk and assist with transporting / ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
This includes pushing / pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
and -May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
