Cognos Developer

Provide a short description of the Position : The IT Specialist - Report Writer will work with multiple technical, business and project management teams to define and meet reporting requirements, develop Cognos model / module, dashboards, KPIs and reports. Contribute towards Requirement Analysis, Data Architecture and Modeling, Data Engineering, Systems Integration, Program / enterprise-level Reporting, all types of reports testing and other project deliverables. Candidate will be assigned to multiple projects. This position would be a Cognos Reporting Expert, who would work with the STAC / Medicaid, Rate Setting and State Aid Units to recreate model / module, reports and dashboards in Cognos BI, which is the reporting tool that will be used once EFRT is migrated off of the mainframe to Unysis.

Provide a list of the day-to-day tasks to be performed by the Selected Candidate : Under the supervision and guidance of the PMO and Project Manager, the Cognos reporting specialist will work with technical staff, Business Analysts and members of the program / business office to perform the following :

• Work with business teams to document and prioritize incoming business reporting requirements / requests and respond to periodic report requests and issues from various program offices / projects.
• Analyze requirements, seek necessary clarifications, develop / configure, test and deploy Cognos BI model / module, reports and dashboards.
• Convert / configure existing EZSpec reports into Cognos reports.
• Setting-up and facilitating meetings with the business teams to understand reporting needs (As-Is and To-Be) and pain points.
• Create and maintain a periodic reports distribution calendar to monitor and publish appropriate reports for all stakeholders.
• Prepares charts, tables and diagrams and develops Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and performance scorecards
• Demonstrate commitment to data quality and integrity by developing appropriate job aids, internal control processes, testing etc. over Cognos BI reporting.
• Conduct deep dive sessions with teams with a problem-solver attitude.
• Performs historical reports and data mining to provide insights to support improved decision making.
• Analytically apply knowledge of design concepts in database management, data warehousing, data modeling, data quality, business reporting and dashboards.
• Contribute to developing reporting standards and best practices for different projects.
• Collaborate with other teams to prioritize reporting needs
• Perform report rules and parameters reviews to ensure high quality and that standards are being met.
• Ensure business intelligence training needs are identified and met.
• Assist and train team members in developing reports and dashboards and also develop help guides.
• Evaluates business / operational needs and make recommendations for enhanced or additional applications of reporting solutions.
• Develop complex reports and dashboards including different sets of formulas and calculations, relational and multidimensional data structures and logic.
• Uses various database scripting and software programming languages to extract, transform and load data.
• Enhance visual presentation of current reporting solutions
• Ensure production issues and tickets within Cognos environment are resolved in a timely manner.
• Ensure optimum performance and minimal downtime of Cognos supported reports.
• Operate in a hybrid (Agile / Waterfall) environment and actively manage reporting requirements, change requests and user assistance needs.
• Contribute to design and architecture discussions, daily stand-ups, sprint planning sessions and other meetings.
• Become a reporting subject matter expert (SME) and business advisor.
• Support QA / Testing by developing timely reporting test plans, writing and executing test cases, done / acceptance criteria, end-user testing and reporting deliverables validation.
