Job description

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for Senior Bridge / Structural Engineer for our Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, or Herndon, VA office . Be involved in projects with our Transportation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client's objectives and solves their challenges.

Provides technical assistance and guidance for multi-site / phase due diligence, investigation, remediation, improvement, and / or construction of building and infrastructure projects in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, concept development, planning, and construction of load-bearing structures or structural elements, such as buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures. Substantiates reports and documentation regarding material, installations, and construction specifications. Ensures that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality.

Duties and Responsibilities

Perform senior professional bridge / structural engineering work including :

Development and drafting of plans and details using CAD software for project design documents.

Field inspection and condition assessment of bridges, sign structures, culverts and retaining walls.

Preparation of quantity and cost estimates.

Preparation of structural analysis and design calculations.

Review of drawings to assure compliance with design intent and specifications.

Assisting more experienced engineers with broader engineering activities.

Mentor junior engineers.

Preparation of technical studies, reports, and design document packages.

Participate in incorporating advanced modeling techniques, concept development, design requirements, and operating strategies to account for the safety and functionality of end-users, transportation.

Verify the characteristics of a site, providing technical assistance on securing structural soundness from loads and pressures caused by environmental or human influence.

Generate complete, accurate, and concise documentation using electronic systems, drawings, and 2D / 3D illustrations.

Comply with safety guidelines and site-specific procedures which include but are not limited to, location data, statistical documentation, engineering studies and surveys, and construction.

Complete training on assigned tasks.

Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.

5-7 years of relevant post education experience in engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.

Engineer license required (multi-state preferred).

Proficient in engineering analysis, design, and practices, including rehabilitation and new design.

Proficient in or strong knowledge of process and concepts for design / build.

Knowledge of relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

Competent interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.

Effective self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, work independently, and comply with company policies.

Proficient in technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.

Experience with discipline-specific design software (i.e., MicroStation, LEAP Bridge, LARSA, STAAD Pro, AASHTOWare BrR).

Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug / alcohol and harassment policies.

Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Occasional local travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

The selected candidate must have the ability to work in the United States immediately.

Preferred Qualifications

Professional Engineering License.

Master's Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.

A member of and / or actively participate in local professional practice organizations.WSP Benefits :

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations) : $83,200-$145,530

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and / or federal law.
