Project / Program Specialist Level 1
The Weapons Mission Services, New Employee Training & Workforce Development group (WMS-1) is seeking a skilled Project / Program Specialist Level 1 to support various projects within the Training Facilities & Project Support Team. The primary core tasks of the position will support Associate Laboratory Directorate for Weapons Production (ALDWP) operational divisions operational activities for meeting mission training deliverables. The PPS-1 will report to the WMS-1 Training Facilities & Project Support team supervisor. The selected individual will support initiatives, establish operational plans, and implement repeatable workflows to support training and project goals. They will utilize Microsoft Teams, Excel, and project management software to track progress, generate accurate metrics, and support schedule development and reporting. The ideal candidate is a collaborative, adaptable, and detail-oriented team player who will work closely with other PPSs, Project Leaders, Learning Specialists, WMS employees, and customers to accomplish assigned projects.

Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in operational work, with strong attention to detail in technical administrative processes and protocol. Applies critical thinking and logical analysis to interpret complex information, identify solutions, resolve problems, and recommend improvements. Skilled at managing competing priorities and adapting to a dynamic work environment while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
Project Coordination and Execution
Proven ability to support small-scale projects by coordinating operational functions such as planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and managing multiple tasks while adapting to shifting priorities and meeting deadlines. Experienced in assisting with project schedule development, milestone tracking, and timely adjustments to meet defined deadlines. Collaborates effectively with project leaders and line managers to assess resource needs and align efforts with scope, schedule, and budget.
Data & Metrics
Knowledge of and experience in compiling, analyzing, and reporting data to support project execution and performance tracking. Proficient at interpreting data from multiple sources to support forecasting, cost estimation, and status reporting. Ensures accuracy and consistency in reporting while supporting compliance with organizational and regulatory standards.
Business Systems
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint), Adobe applications, and similar software. Familiarity with project management tools such as Jira, Visio, and Microsoft Project is preferred, with a demonstrated willingness and ability to learn and adopt new technologies as needed to support project coordination and execution.
Collaboration and Communication
Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication, including experience presenting or reporting project status and issues to stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams. Able to clearly convey technical and programmatic information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Education and Experience
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 2 years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Desired Qualifications :
Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.
Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.
