Job Summary
Summary
Under general supervision and according to established procedures; installs, inspects, replaces, tests, and performs a wide variety of plumbing tasks to maintain the supply and integrity of the natural gas, steam, water, sanitary and medical gas distribution systems and equipment throughout the Hospital facilities. In doing so, studies blueprints to determine kind and size of pipes to use, cuts pipes along layout markings, and fits and seals valves and other pipe parts. Runs and tests water lines and inspects all connections for leaks and maintains logbook for repairs and readings. Performs minor H. V.A.C., and or Mechanical tasks as required, when related to standard plumbing duties. In doing so, studies blueprints to determine kind and size of pipes to use, cuts pipes along layout markings, and fits and seals valves and other pipe parts. Runs and tests water lines and inspects all connections for leaks and maintains logbook for repairs and readings.

Essential Functions
1. Receive assignments and work orders. Review work orders, priority status and designated time schedules. Sketch plans and / or read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, operating manuals and manufacturer's specifications; estimate time, material and cost requirements to install and repair. Operate and test new equipment.
2. Regularly confers with Hospital departments to clarify nature of plumbing problems and / or discuss plumbing installation procedures and time requirements for work completion and maintains an accurate record of all work.
3. Estimates equipment, parts, and materials necessary to complete assigned work and processes-requisitions. Ensures parts and materials are issued properly and efficiently utilized .
4. Participates in developing recommendations regarding replacement of existing equipment, purchase of new equipment, hiring of outside contractors, and improvement of plumbing equipment performance.
5. Prepares and maintains records of all tests conducted and test results of equipment.
6. Maintains contact with vendors, representatives of public utilities, and representatives of plumbing equipment manufacturers in order to gather and exchange information and resolve problems related to Hospital plumbing equipment.
7. May review plans, blueprints, and specifications for construction or remodeling, and may recommend appropriate modifications or additions to plans as necessary.
8. Keeps current regarding changes in applicable codes, developments in plumbing equipment, and improved equipment repair, installation or maintenance processes.

11. Repair, assemble and install plumbing fixtures and drainage systems according to specifications and plumbing codes.
12. Assemble and install valves, pipe fittings and pipes composed of metals such as iron and steel and nonmetals such as glass and plastic, using hand and power tools. Pressurize pipe systems in order to check for leaks.
13. May perform routine plumbing work, such as unplugging toilets, sinks, and drain lines; repair / replacement of faucets, shower heads, toilet seats, and so forth.
14. Insulates all new piping installations and performs repairs to existing systems as directed.
15. May supervise and assist with work by outside contractors as required.
16. Files for permits as required.
17. Performs and documents equipment repairs; may test new and repaired equipment before it is put into service.
18. May assist in training staff in operation and repair of equipment.
19. Order supplies and parts according to established procedures.
20. May assist in evaluating new equipment.
21. Establishes and maintains courteous, cooperative relations when interacting with patients, visitors, other staff members, and the public.
22. Assist other trades personnel as needed in handling materials on major repair or installation projects.
23. Maintains all required records and information pertinent to costing out work assignments as required. .
24. Keep work areas orderly, clean and safe. Assure proper care in use of tools, equipment and supplies.
25. Responds to "Code Red" calls.
26. Maintain and comply with Codes and requirements of accreditation and regulatory agencies.
27. Some overtime required.
28. May be required to maintain "On-Call" status.
29. Responds to emergency and trouble calls and requests at any of the medical center owned properties.

Experience
Approximately three to five years related experience necessary in order to gain full knowledge of installation, testing, repair and maintenance of plumbing systems and equipment, and all applicable codes. 3-5 years required and Trade or vocational school training must include courses in mechanics, plumbing, blueprint reading, mechanical drawing, shop mathematics, with special emphasis on plumbing and gas fitting. required
