On-Call Nurse Assistant
About the position
The position involves assisting the school nurse by taking on routine record-keeping activities, providing minor first-aid care, and conducting health screenings at the campus level. The role requires working under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse.
Responsibilities
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses according to a detailed policy established by the school nurse.
- Administer and keep a record of medication dispensed to students only when directed by the school nurse.
- Take vital signs and communicate findings to the school nurse.
- Assist with screening activities including measuring height and weight, testing vision and hearing, and examining spinal cord and scalp.
- Assist students to and from the health room with disabilities as necessary.
- Contact parents of students who will be picked up from school for health reasons.
- Follow the school nurse's instructions and procedures to aid in the daily operation of the clinic.
- Keep the school nurse informed about the urgency of students' needs.
- Manage the clinic independently when the campus nurse is off-campus.
- Use precaution when cleaning all body spills and providing wound care.
- Keep the health clinic clean and sanitary.
- Keep the clinic organized and orderly.
- Maintain clinic supplies and office supplies as needed.
- Prepare and arrange bulletin boards and displays near the clinic.
- Answer phone calls.
- Assist the school nurse with the upkeeping of records and reports.
- Data entry of students records to system.
- Scan and filing of student records.
- Keep gently used clothing organized and orderly.
- Comply with policies established by federal and state laws.
- Comply with School Health Policy and Procedures established by Odyssey Academy.
- Maintain confidentiality.
Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalentFirst aid and CPR certifications or agreement to become certified within the designated timeframeExperience working with children preferredCertified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferredAt least one year of health-related experience, including contact with school-age children.
