MD Tax Equity Investor Relations/VP Investor Relations

Insource Services Inc. Consulting
Boston, MA, USA
Full-time
We are sorry. The job offer you are looking for is no longer available.

Our client, a growing renewables-focused private equity firm, is looking to add a senior investor relations role to help guide the firm's capital and fundraising strategy.

Our client's funds employ tax-incentivized strategies to deliver more compelling after-tax returns (this niche space is referred to as "tax equity").

The ideal candidate will be someone with established institutional relationships either through a lateral role or a complementary one.

Our client strives to think outside of the box, so if you feel that this is a role you are well-suited for, we encourage you to apply even if you have not had previous direct experience in this industry.

The position can be fully remote or can be based in either Boston or Palm Beach, FL for those who prefer a hybrid structure.

The MD-Investor Relations role will be well-supported with the resources and budget to succeed. Additionally, the C-Suite is experienced in this type of fundraising and can be as involved as necessary in helping to get the candidate up-to-speed, or it can be structured as a largely autonomous role for a well-experienced candidate.

The MD-Investor Relations is a core role at the firm, tasked with expanding and managing our client's institutional investor base.

The VP-Investor Relations role is designed for someone who is not yet established enough to handle the senior-level position but may be underutilized in their current one.

Our client's focus is on the candidate's overall narrative and career accomplishments rather than on satisfying strict criteria such as falling within a certain range of years in a given function - though, a general guideline can be thought of as 10+ years of relevant experience for the MD position and 5+ years for the VP position.

The Industry and Company :

The ideal candidate will already be familiar with the concepts of "tax equity," though we still encourage candidates to apply even if they are new to this niche space.

Specifically, the firm focuses on raising and deploying renewable energy-related investment funds with a niche tax-oriented strategy.

The candidate would work directly with the key decision makers on the investment, treasury, and sustainability teams at Fortune 500 companies, so they look for someone with a high degree of professionalism and poise to fill this role as one of the external faces of their company.

Qualities They Look For In The MD Role :

  • High degree of emotional intelligence and strong communication skills
  • Well-respected individual among their institutional contacts
  • Strategic thinker with input to C-suite decision-making
  • Team leader capable of managing junior-level hires
  • Relationship-building rather than sales-oriented approach consistent with the company's brand
  • Ability or track record in quickly understanding buy-side decision-making processes
  • Deep understanding and fluency in investment concepts and corporate finance (a strong grasp of corporate accounting nuances is helpful as well)
  • Natural "networker"
  • Familiarity with renewable energy tax equity specifically, or other forms of tax equity (e.g. LIHTC) - or otherwise quick to internalize those concepts

Ideally an expert in at least one of the following :

  • Tax Equity Fundraising
  • Tax Equity Industry Dynamics
  • Corporate Treasury and Accounting at Large Corporations
  • Corporate Tax Management
  • Institutional Fundraising
  • Communications & Marketing

Responsibilities :

  • Initiate and cultivate new investor relationships
  • Deepen engagement with existing investors
  • Meet in-person with existing investors and prospective new investors
  • Help design and host investor events and marketing functions as necessary
  • Manage junior-level hires and oversee investor reporting and onboarding
  • Work with other functions of the business to ensure that the investors' objectives are satisfied
  • Provide input on firm-level strategic decisions at the C-Suite
  • Potential to educate prospective new investors who are not already active in the space
