Job description

Find your superpower with the Graduate Development Program

National Grid's Graduate Development Program (GDP) is a year-long development program for recent college graduates who aspire to take on future leadership roles in a dynamic, ever-changing industry. Graduates will shape the future of National Grid. Bringing fresh thinking, new perspectives, and exploring with energy, we'll give you real responsibility and an opportunity to move with purpose from day one - putting the power to supercharge your career in your hands.

Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.

Group Function Rotations

Graduates in our Strategy and Regulation teams will take part in a 12-month exploration. Your first 6 months will be in the role outlined below and you will return to this role following a broadening 6-month placement designed to provide you with a breadth of experience within your functional area and accelerate your progression at National Grid. This placement will provide you with the opportunity to solve complex problems and focus on growth that will transform the energy sector as we know it.

About the Position

Are you passionate about shaping the future of energy? As an Associate Analyst, you'll be a key member of the US Policy & Regulatory Strategy team that develops policy and regulatory positions to support a reliable, affordable, and decarbonized energy future for our electric and gas customers in the Northeast US. National Grid is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 for our operations and the gas and electricity we sell to customers, consistent with our states' climate laws. You'll gain practical insights into the utility business, build essential skills, understand the stakeholder landscape, and navigate the complexities of energy policy.

This is a hybrid role with two days of work in the office per week for team collaboration.

What You'll Do

You will be at the forefront of energy change, accelerate your learning, and work with senior leaders at National Grid! Here's what you'll be up to :

  • Research & Analysis : Conduct in-depth research and analysis on regulatory, market, and policy developments affecting the utility sector, including electric distribution, electric transmission, and gas distribution.
  • Communication : Assist in preparing presentations, reports, and regulatory filings that clearly communicate complex information to various stakeholders.
  • Cross-Functional Engagement : Work with cross-functional teams to assess industry trends and identify strategic implications for the company.
  • Quantitative Analysis : Conduct quantitative analysis to inform decision-making on topics like cost recovery, policy implications, and customer impacts.
  • Legislation Contribution : Help design and edit legislation, regulations, and tariffs governing new utility programs and activities.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor or Master's degree from an accredited institution preferably in economics, public policy, engineering or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data sets and conduct quantitative analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting information to diverse audiences.
  • A keen interest in the energy sector, particularly in areas related to clean energy, regulatory frameworks, and market dynamics.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and familiarity with data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
  • Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
  • Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
  • Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)
