Medical Assistant Position

The Correctional Health Services Division at the Department of Health and Human Services in Salt Lake City, Utah is seeking to hire a Medical Assistant (MA) with an ability to work effectively with medical staff, officers and offenders. In this position, the Medical Assistant's (MA's) main role is to provide support and assistance to nursing and provider staff. Administrative duties may include maintaining medical records and facilitating medical appointments. Clinical duties may include preparing treatment and patient exam rooms and recording patient medical history. Assist the Registered Nurse on duty as needed.

The ideal candidate will :

• Have some experience working in a hospital, nursing, health care clinic or secure patient environment.
• Be skilled in the use of computers and electronic health records.
• Have demonstrated ability to take and record vital signs; perform venipunctures for laboratory samples, perform point-of-care laboratory testing, transfer and transport patients in a safe manner using proper body mechanics; recognize signs and symptoms indicating distress; and to perform CPR if needed.
• Have good patient assessment skills.
• Have good documentation skills.
• Be detail oriented.
• Have the ability to work well with medical staff, officers and offenders.
