Medical Laboratory Technician PRN

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Laboratory Supervisor, the Medical Laboratory Technician performs a variety of laboratory tests of varying complexity to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of disease.

Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) performs testing in various departments of the clinical lab, such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Transfusion, and more.

These caregivers act as a technical expert to clinical staff, co-workers, and other departments. They are critical to patient diagnosis and care, ensuring accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, record review, instrument maintenance, and results / analyzer troubleshooting.

Intermountain caregivers in this role will have opportunities for growth, taking on additional responsibilities such as :

• Key operator
• QC review
• Training and mentoring new staff
• Assisting with evaluation and validation of new equipment
• Technical writing
• Compliance readiness (CAP, CLIA, etc.)
• Acting as interim Team Lead

This position requires organizational skills as well as the ability to navigate many technical processes with a high level of detail.

These caregivers work well as a member of a team and maintain a clean and safe work environment.

Minimum Qualifications

Associates degree or at least 60 semester hours of an accredited MLT program along with national certification, MLT (ASCP or approved accrediting agency), or equivalent (military) certification as determined by Manager.

Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts that may include weekends, holidays and nights.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with laboratory information systems.
• Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory
• Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
• Demonstrated effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person

Physical Requirements :

Physical RequirementsInteract with others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information.Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment requiring the ability to move fingers and and read lab equipment, monitors, and sitting or standing for long periods of time to perform work on a computer or other equipment.
