The Director Patient Safety coordinates and supports activities to improve patient safety and leads organizational strategic initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies and will report directly to the Vice President of Clinical Programs.

Adheres to National Patient Safety Goals as appropriate based on the level of patient contact this position requires.

The Director of Patient Safety responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following :

  • Serves as the system champion for the journey toward high reliability and is the accountable executive to enhance the culture around patient safety throughout the organization.
  • Identifies trends and conducts gap analysis between current and desired outcomes and performance.
  • Develops and directs the patient safety training curriculum and education programs.
  • Participates in patient safety efforts with and for the medical staff and serves as the Patient Safety Officer for INTEGRIS.
  • Provides strategic leadership, management, and overall guidance to the organization for patient safety and improvement initiatives and process and outcome measurements.
  • Guides development of performance measurement metrics to ensure achievement of patient safety performance standards.
  • Develops patient safety standards and performs monitoring and reporting of adherence.
  • Collaborates with entity leadership teams to address quality and safety deficits.
  • Assists with organizational strategic initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and accrediting bodies.
  • Cultivates and maintains professional relationships with primary customers including operational, clinical and physician leaders, physicians, caregivers, patients, vendors, and external entities to foster opportunities for improvement in patient safety metrics.
  • Completes employee performance appraisals, coaches, and develops staff and addresses performance concerns.
  • Develops and manages budget and ensures fiscal accountability and achievement of financial goals and results.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in nursing or a healthcare related field.
  • Preferred Master’s degree in nursing or a healthcare related field.
  • Preferred Minimum of five (5) years of progressive management responsibility in an acute care setting two (2) of which are related to managing an organization’s Patient Safety program.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical patient care experience.
  • Experience developing and implementing clinical quality / safety and / or process improvement initiatives.

Certifications and licensure :

  • Preferred Certification in patient safety.
  • Preferred Certification, knowledge, or expertise with performance improvement / CQI methodologies (., Continuous Improvement, Lean Six Sigma).
  • Preferred Current knowledge of accreditation and regulatory requirements for acute care services.
