Client is a technically focused specialty chemical and intermediates company entering an exciting stage of growth and preparing for its initial public offering (IPO). The company has built a strong reputation for technical excellence, customer service, and product quality. As we transition toward becoming a public company, we are seeking a hands-on Chief Financial Officer to build and lead the finance function while personally managing the company's accounting operations until additional staff are added.
This role is ideal for an experienced financial leader who is comfortable working at both strategic and tactical levels - from developing IPO readiness plans and financial controls to booking journal entries and reconciling accounts in Sage 100.
Position Summary
The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the company's senior financial executive responsible for accounting, finance, compliance, and reporting functions. The CFO will also directly perform controller- level and staff accounting duties due to the company's lean structure. This includes full-cycle accounting, month-end close, financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and audit support.
The ideal candidate combines deep technical accounting expertise , Sage 100 proficiency , and public company readiness experience , with the ability to both lead strategically and execute independently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Leadership Responsibilities
- Serve as a key member of the executive team and financial liaison to the CEO, board, investors, and external auditors.
- Lead IPO readiness activities, including the establishment of internal controls, accounting policies, and SOX-compliant processes.
- Develop and oversee financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and long-range strategy.
- Manage capital structure, cash flow, and liquidity to support growth and shareholder value creation.
- Prepare financial presentations and analysis for the board, investors, and underwriters.
Controller & Accounting Responsibilities
Perform and oversee all day-to-day accounting operations in Sage 100 , including :
Recording and posting journal entries.Managing accounts payable and receivable. o Performing bank and account reconciliations.Monitoring inventory and cost accounting.Processing payroll and related tax filings.Manage month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.Prepare internal financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Coordinate with external auditors and tax preparers to ensure compliance and timely filings.Maintain the general ledger and ensure all accounting data is accurate, complete, and documented.Implement and document internal controls to prepare for public company audit standards.Assist in ERP optimization and the development of automated reporting as the company scales.Recruit, train, and mentor future accounting and financial sta= as the organization grows.Qualifications Required :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.10+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience , including leadership of theaccounting function.
Deep hands-on experience with Sage 100 , including general ledger, inventory, and reportingmodules.
Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP , financial statement preparation, and internal controls.Experience in public company or IPO preparation (audit readiness, SEC / SOX exposure).Proven ability to operate independently and manage all aspects of the accounting cycle.Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a small-teamenvironment.
Preferred :
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.Experience in manufacturing or chemical industry accounting , particularly inventory and costof goods tracking.
Prior experience with international goods movementPrior experience building a finance or accounting function from early stage through publiccompany transition.
