Overview
Composite Structural Engineer at Corvid Technologies in Huntsville, AL and Mooresville, NC. The ideal candidate will have experience developing complex composite structural models in ABAQUS, NASTRAN, or ANSYS, with materials such as carbon-carbon, carbon / SiC, carbon and silica phenolics and other polymeric matrix composites. Dynamic modeling of shock and vibration on flight systems is desired. Experience modeling metallics including refractory materials is a plus. This is an opportunity to work on hypersonics flight systems.
Responsibilities
- Develop structural models of tape-wrapped hardware to predict flight margins.
- Develop structural models of 3D woven / braided composite parts and estimate flight performance with margins.
- Collaborate with aerothermal and flight dynamic engineers to apply boundary conditions to structural models.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and deliver analytical solutions.
- Test hardware components with team members to ensure they meet specifications and best practices.
- Participate in engineering design reviews to provide feedback and address flight design compliance.
- Plan, execute, and document ground testing of structures, including static loadings, shock, vibration, and combined environment loadings.
- Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies in composite modeling and fabrication.
- Work with designers to develop composite aerospace structures.
- Collaborate with Corvid software specialists to enhance structural analytical capabilities within company proprietary codes.
- Potential travel up to 25%.
