The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City's evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers, and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Human Resources is seeking a highly motivated Agility Team Supervisor to oversee the performance of both typical and atypical physical ability tests which can be expected and required of a Correction Officer's response to either a routine radio run or critical incident. The selected candidate will oversee and manage a group of Fitness instructors responsible for the administering Correction Officer candidate assessments via physical agility tests. The Agility Team Supervisor must be able to walk and / or stand in an assigned area for approximately 8 hours continuously. The Agility Team Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that all potential Correction Officer (CO) candidates remain motivated to successfully completing the required tests. The selected candidates will assist in monitoring, measuring, and providing reports regarding potential CO candidates' retention within the fitness site. Selected candidate will also ensure that all potential CO candidates are given proper direction and tools, to successfully complete all the components of fitness testing which include, aerobic and anaerobic endurance, rapid recovery, and lower body strength. The Agility Team Supervisor will also be responsible for developing training manuals to provide continuous assistance to potential CO candidates who have difficulty in passing the trigger pull and run test. The Agility Team Supervisor will also be tasked with working in conjunction with the CARE Unit in developing an in-service program designed and focused on uniform MOS physical well-being and mental awareness through strength & conditioning plus mind & body exercises.

Preferred Skills

A degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Human Movement, Physical Education, Athletic training or a similar degree. In addition to this, the individual should hold a credible certification such as the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) CSCS / TSAC-F / CPT, LouKa Public Safety Wellness Instructor, National Association of Sports Medicine (NASM), Fitforce or similar.

Maintain a high level of confidentiality; excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills

Knowledge of MS Office proficiency (Word. PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel)

Knowledge of DOC medical standards regarding Agility testing.

Qualifications

A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of full-time paid experience in correction, social work, psychology, law, public administration or related field providing direct services to an inmate or detention population within a correctional or related facility; or

A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of full-time paid experience as described in "1" above; or

Education and / or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Service as an inmate in a correctional or related facility may be substituted for a portion of the required experience up to a maximum of two years on a year for year basis. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in social work, psychology, law, criminal justice or public administration which includes a field placement performing duties as described above may be substituted for up to one year of full-time paid experience as described above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of full-time paid experience as described in "1" above.
