We are significantly expanding our engineering capabilities and are seeking a visionary Director of Engineering to establish and lead this critical function. This is a newly created, high-impact role that will significantly influence our future success.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a hands-on and experienced engineering leader to oversee product engineering, quality control, and maintenance departments. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will be instrumental in building a high-performing engineering department, ensuring the development of high-quality products, and optimizing our manufacturing infrastructure.
A strong background in both heavy gauge thermoforming and CNC operations is a must-have for this 100% on-site position.
What You Will Do
- Leadership & Strategy : Lead, manage, mentor, and train the engineering, quality, and maintenance teams (4-6 direct reports). Consult with executive leadership to establish long-range operating and manufacturing goals.
- Product Development : Drive new product development from concept and testing through to full production. Collaborate with cross-functional departments to assess market potential.
- Manufacturing Excellence : Develop and implement advanced manufacturing processes and procedures to optimize production efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Continuous Improvement : Champion continuous improvement initiatives, lean manufacturing principles, and 5S procedures to enhance productivity and reduce waste.
- Technical Oversight : Provide technical expertise, support programming on the floor utilizing CNC software, and use design software to implement necessary product changes and approvals.
- Operational Management : Oversee project timeliness, manage the implementation of new equipment and automation systems, and collaborate with vendors to source new technologies and materials.
- Quality & Compliance : Monitor production data, analyze defects, recommend modifications to products / quality standards, and ensure strict compliance with all quality and safety regulations.
What You Will Bring
Required Skills & Experience
Must-Have Technical Expertise : Strong, proven background in heavy gauge thermoforming and CNC operations .Education : Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.Management : Minimum of 5 years of proven experience in a manufacturing engineering managerial role.Leadership : Strong ability to inspire and motivate teams, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Technical Proficiency : Expertise in lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement methodologies, and proficiency in CAD / CAM software.Project Management : Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and budget requirements.Analytical Skills : Strong ability to analyze complex data and metrics to drive process improvements.Industry Knowledge : Familiarity with quality management systems (QMS), regulatory requirements, and manufacturing operations in thermoforming environments.Compensation & Logistics
Salary : $180,000, Depending on Experience (DOE)Location : Gurnee, IL (100% On-Site)Relocation : No, but we will consider strong candidates with existing ties to the Gurnee / Chicagoland area.Interview Process : 2 Rounds (The process will involve the Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Operations.)
