Job Description
The Chief Compliance Officer provides leadership and direction to the Compliance Program, which includes developing, implementing, and communicating programs and processes that support and meet the demands of the healthcare industry and fulfill the mission of Children’s.
The Chief Compliance Officer is responsible for providing oversight of the Compliance Program, Privacy, Internal Audit, Coding Compliance and Research Compliance.
In addition, the Chief Compliance Officer will engage with Children’s leaders and department heads to determine any other compliance needs of the organization.
The Chief Compliance Officer reports directly to the General Counsel and has unfettered access to the Chief Administrative Officer, the Chief Executive Officer, and other Executive Team members.
The Chief Compliance Officer also serves as staff to the Audit & Compliance Committee and has unfettered access to the Chair and committee members.
The Chief Compliance Officer leads a team of approximately 25 professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Direct and oversee the Compliance Program, including reviewing and maintaining the compliance program document, policies, Standards of Conduct and committee charters for Children’s and its controlled subsidiaries.
Oversee effective compliance communication and training programs.
Collaborate with other departments as necessary to ensure that all compliance issues are appropriately investigated and resolved.
Respond to alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and Standards of Conduct as necessary by evaluating or recommending the initiation of investigative procedures.
Identify potential areas of compliance vulnerability and risk; develop / implement corrective action plans for resolution of problematic issues and provide general guidance on avoiding or dealing with similar situations in the future.
Direct and oversee the Privacy and Security Program, including reviewing and maintaining the Privacy Policies and Procedures.
Direct and oversee the Internal Audit Program, including reviewing and maintaining the Internal Audit Program Documents, Policies and Procedures.
Direct and oversee the Coding Audit Program, including investigations as needed.
Provide Training and Education on topics that fall within scope of the Chief Compliance Officer’s duties.
Conduct investigations, reviews, and audits in subject-matter areas that fall within the scope of the Chief Compliance Officer’s duties.
Support other system initiatives as needed.
Candidate Requirements
We are seeking an individual with the following, experience, knowledge, and abilities.
E xperience
At least ten (10) years of Compliance experience, with at least five years of experience in a hospital or healthcare system setting.
Experience managing and operating a team, with the ability to engage and retain members.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required in health administration, business administration, or related field is required.
A Juris Doctor or advanced degree in business or health administration from an accredited, top-tier law or graduate school preferred or equivalent compliance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert level knowledge of statutes, rules and regulations pertaining to healthcare. Hands on experience with Stark, antitrust, anti-kickback, False Claims Act, EMTALA, privacy & security laws, and billing and coding requirements.
Working knowledge of the role of Legal and privileged investigations.
Executive Characteristics

Expert level written and verbal communication skills to provide clear instruction to staff in order to achieve the desired outcome.
Ability to represent Children’s professionally in a variety of settings.
