Overview
Lead night shift labor and delivery operations at a 420+ bed women's hospital in Houston, Texas, delivering 800+ babies monthly (more than any other hospital in Texas). This Labor & Delivery Manager role oversees 15-20 bed birthing unit caring for more multiple births than any regional facility, supported by a Level IV NICU and the area's only March of Dimes NICU Family Support program. The facility serves as the state's premier women's and children's health destination offering comprehensive obstetrics, high-risk pregnancy, gynecology, minimally invasive surgery, infertility, breast health, imaging, and pediatrics. The position reports to the Director and requires 5 days weekly night shift including weekends. Responsibilities
- Administer, analyze, and appraise care given to patients within labor and delivery unit during night shift operations.
- Advise hospital management regarding patient care status, budgetary projections, and quality improvement processes.
- Anticipate and estimate future departmental needs to improve quality of patient care and operational excellence.
- Function as resource person for staff members and assist in necessary education promoting clinical competence in obstetric nursing.
- Collaborate and coordinate staff efforts to accomplish organizational mission delivering 800+ babies monthly.
- Oversee night shift operations for 15-20 bed labor and delivery unit managing high-volume deliveries and multiple births.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards including Joint Commission, CMS, and state requirements for obstetric services.
- Monitor quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes to drive continuous improvement in maternal care.
- Manage staffing assignments, clinical competencies, and resource allocation during overnight hours.
- Provide clinical leadership for emergent deliveries, high-risk pregnancies, and obstetric complications during night shift.
- Support Level IV NICU operations through effective coordination of maternal-fetal medicine and neonatal services.
- Implement evidence-based practices to enhance patient safety and optimize maternal-fetal outcomes.
- Mentor and develop labor and delivery staff through coaching, performance management, and professional growth opportunities.
- Maintain fiscal responsibility through budget monitoring, supply utilization, and cost-effective resource management.
Qualifications
Required :
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from accredited programCurrent Texas RN license in good standing3-5 years of recent (within last year) acute care Labor & Delivery leadership experienceBCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certificationMedication Learning Module completionNRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification required within 6 months of hireAWHONN Fetal Heart Monitoring certification required within 6 months of hireACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certificationStrong clinical expertise in labor and delivery, high-risk obstetrics, and multiple birthsExcellent leadership, communication, and organizational skillsAvailability for night shift (11PM-7AM) 5 days per week including weekendsPreferred :
