Senior Construction Controller

A prominent organization headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, that specializes in commercial and residential services. This company has experienced substantial growth by primarily focusing on the new housing construction market.
They have made three acquisitions in less than six months, so they need a lot more senior-level support on a divisional level.
This company operates as a 100% employee-owned entity, and are very focused on employee growth and providing top customer service.
Role
The company is looking for a Senior Construction Controller to collaborate with finance leaders & operation teams to provide support for all accounting, reporting and analysis.
Key responsibilities include :
- Oversee the preparation of individual and monthly combined contract statuses to assess the financial position of all ongoing projects
- Track license renewals, tax payments, vendor setup, fixed asset setup, and use tax accruals as part of assigned responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with day-to-day policies and procedures and cost accounting by developing and mentoring Assistant Controller(s) and Construction Administrator staff
- Reconcile accounts payable, accounts receivables, cash reconciliation, bank transactions, and purchase orders
- Provide accounting and reconciliation support for specific company(s) / division(s) and their monthly, quarterly, and yearly close procedures
- Review and post monthly journal entries to support accounting transactions and consolidation requirements
- Perform a monthly P&L review for necessary accruals, conducting comparison and trend analysis
- Analyze financial reports generated from the Sage Accounting System (Timberline)
- Execute and / or review general ledger account reconciliations in alignment with internal control procedures
- Collaborate with the Division Manager in the joint responsibility for the review and collection of Accounts Receivable Undertake special project assignments and fulfill other duties as assigned
Requirements & Competencies
- Managerial experience in public accounting
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to clearly articulate issues to management as situations arise
- Collaborative, team-oriented individual willing to assist wherever needed to ensure the group provides accurate and timely financial information
- 3-5 years of prior controller or assistant controller experience preferred
- 3-5 years of Construction experience required
- General understanding of construction insurance, bonding requirements, lien laws, and sales tax for contractors preferred
- Solid knowledge of U.S. generally accepted accounting principles
- Experience in the construction industry and Percentage of Completion / Cost to Cost accounting preferred
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office; specifically Excel and Word
- Ability to coach and teach team members
- Problem-solving, analytical professional
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and under pressure. Comfortable challenging the status quo to improve effectiveness
- At ease in an environment of change, supports, manages, and initiates change within the organization
- Undergraduate Degree in Accounting preferred
- Experience in general ledger functions and the month-end / year-end close process
