Job Summary

The Cardiology Critical Care Nurse Practitioner position has clinical, procedural, administrative, and educational responsibilities in the care of adult patients requiring assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment in the critical care setting.

Under the supervision of the Chief of Cardiology Critical Care and the Heart & Vascular Director of Advanced Practice Providers, the Cardiology Intensive Care APP (CICU APP) will have a critical role in the inpatient setting, with both team member and individual duties.

These responsibilities will include examination and assessment, diagnosis, and planning; treatment implementation, coordination, and continuity;

performance of specific procedures; development of practice protocols and evaluation of quality of care; education of patients, families and other health care practitioners.

One of the following National NP Board Certifications are required : ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC.

Please note : The compensation ranges listed online for roles not covered by a bargaining unit agreement are very wide, however a job offer will typically fall in the range of 80% - 120% of the established mid-point.

An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

For roles covered by a bargaining unit agreement, there will be specific rules about where a new hire would be placed on the range.

Required Qualifications

NP I

  • Minimum 3 years cardiovascular ICU nursing experience.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined.
  • Flexibility to work across all UCSF campuses, UCSF affiliates and UCSF Faculty Practice patient care locations.

NP II

  • Minimum 6 months NP experience in inpatient general surgery, cardiology, cardiothoracic surgery, cardiovascular, or critical care ICU.
  • Possess the skills, knowledge, and abilities essential to successfully perform the duties of the assigned position.
  • Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations and in varying schedules as outlined.
  • Flexibility to work across all UCSF campuses, UCSF affiliates and UCSF Faculty Practice patient care locations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience with point of care ultrasound
  • Prior experience with line insertion
  • Prior experience with MCS patient population
  • Prior experience in an academic setting

License / Certification

  • California driver's license (CDL) if required for position
  • Must hold current national certification from an accepted certifying agency and provide by first day of work
  • Accepted Certifications for this position : ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC
  • Must hold a current and active RN and NP and Furnishing license in California.
  • Must have completed a BRN recognized graduate master's degree program as a nurse practitioner.
  • Must obtain an active and / or transferable DEA license to California and provide evidence by 90th day of clinical practice.

It is the responsibility of the employee to transfer their DEA license to their new place of employment if from out of state, via online DEA portal and provide evidence of transfer)

  • Must have submitted enrollment with CMS Medicare and Medicaid through credentialing by first clinical day. CCS enrollment as appropriate for pediatric environments
  • Must hold current AHA BLS as minimum requirement
  • Must hold current AHA ACLS as minimum requirement
  • State regulation requires that you have a supervising physician to practice
  • Incumbents with less than 6 months of NP experience will be hired as a Nurse Practitioner 1

UCSF Medical Center and Campus requires certain healthcare providers to be credentialed. In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day.

Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
