POSITION GOALS

  • The Teaching Administrator - Automotive Technology will report directly to the Director of Automotive Technology to deliver state-of-the-art, lecture-based and laboratory-based automotive technology training. The subjects covered include, but are not limited to the following : Engine Repair, Engine Performance, Hybrid Drive Systems, Brakes, Electrical / Electronics, Heating and Air Conditioning, Manual Drive Train, Automatic Transmission.The Teaching Administrator - Automotive Technology will be involved in the Project Even workshops, advisory board, grant reporting, and any other needed duties required through the completion of the grant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Teach state-of-the-art automotive technology. Training responsibilities will include three program components :
  • The Automotive Apprentice Associates Degree Program (AUT.AAS)
  • The General Technician Certificate program (GAT.CA)
  • Continuing education including update training of independent automotive service technicians.
  • Teach 18 contact hours per semester for a total of 36 contact hours per academic year.
  • This position will devote 4.8 person-months in year 1 to the NSF grant, 2.4 person-months in year 2, and 2.4 person-months in year 3.
  • When conducting classes :
  • Conduct classes as scheduled.
  • Process grades as scheduled.
  • Start class on time and conduct class for the fully scheduled time period.
  • Provide students with a written statement of course requirements and expectations that shall include the attendance and grading policy, course objectives, and a course outline.
  • Retain all credit course documentation for a period of not less than three (3) years upon the completion of the course.
  • Observe the approved Departmental Master Syllabi.
  • Demonstrate on-car use of automotive equipment used in the automotive repair industry.
  • Make dealership contacts and visitations during the practicum portion of the Automotive Technology programs.
  • Assume responsibility for the inventory control and security of lab equipment and tools during actual class time.
  • Assist with promotion of the programs and recruitment of students.
  • Supervise the set-up and condition, including cleanliness, of educational areas.
  • Maintain ASE Automotive Certifications; A1- A9, L1, G1.
  • Maintain yearly technical training requirement (20 hours) for ASE Education foundation accreditation.
  • Serve on local high school automotive advisory boards.
  • Adhere to all federally or NJ State mandated training to include, but not limited to, Right-To-Know and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Vocational / Technical Education or related field (Bachelor's degree preferred).
  • Prior Vocational / Technical teaching experience preferred and experience working in the automotive industry with state-of-the-art automotive components and systems. Successful candidate must hold ASE Automotive Certifications; A1- A8
  • A clean driving record is required.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    This position is both classroom and laboratory-based.

  • Extensive use of hands and shop tools is required; standing, stooping, squatting, and bending over cars is required.
  • Candidate shall be capable of lifting 60 lbs.
  • Safety considerations necessitate that the ability to communicate through hearing and speech is mandatory.
  • Some travel to dealerships and training facilities is required. Computer competency is assumed.
  • Published Salary Range

    $60,000-$65,000
