Overview
Lateral Corrections Officer - Jail Services at Clark County WA. This position is open for continuous recruitment. Base pay range : $34.60 / hr - $46.40 / hr. The role involves 24 / 7 jail operations on a 4 on 4 off, 12-hour schedule, including day, swing, and grave shifts, weekends and holidays.
Mission : support public safety from the inside by maintaining safety, security, and humane treatment within the jail. This role leverages existing corrections experience and certification to expedite integration into Clark County Jail Services.
Responsibilities
- Provide intake and release services for inmates, including interviews to determine medical and other special needs and processing booking information.
- Maintain order and security by supervising inmate activities and movement; search, fingerprint, and photograph inmates during booking; conduct contraband searches; monitor security systems and jail access.
- Respond to emergencies per policies and procedures; prepare and transport inmates for court appearances and other appointments.
- Enforce jail rules; monitor inmate behavior, health needs, and provide reporting when attention is required.
- Instruct inmates on jail rules, address violations, and write violation reports; conduct headcounts and screen visitors.
- Monitor inmate movement and security systems; assist with emergencies and incidents; perform related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
At least 21 years of age; United States Citizenship or Lawful Permanent Resident; high school diploma or GED.Valid driver's license at time of appointment.Two to three years of corrections experience in a comparable county, municipal, or state agency.Current or recent certification as a Corrections Officer; ability to gain Washington State CJTC certification through the Equivalency Academy process if needed.Equivalency process requirements : provide academy syllabus and certificate; complete CJTC Equivalency Academy within six months of hire; no felony convictions or recent disqualifying history; pass background and physical ability tests; and meet other standards described in the process.Strong writing, communication, mediation, problem-solving, and computer skills; ability to pass comprehensive background investigation and physical ability tests; knowledge of incarceration principles and applicable laws.Essential Skills And Abilities
