The Shelter Coordinator is responsible for maintaining the overall personal safety of clients, staff, and volunteers by ensuring that organizational policies and procedures are followed consistently. The shelter coordinator provides respectful trauma-informed support to clients and de-escalates situations that may arise between them and/or others on shelter grounds.

Days and hours:
The ideal schedule would be from Wednesday to Sunday, between 1:30 pm -10 pm (Hours or days may vary slightly)/8-hour shift per day, flexible availability is required, schedule subject to change, as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist and support clients using trauma-informed practices to address emergent issues and day-to-day agency protocols.
- Ensure clients are safe and protected.
- Oversee the safety of the facility, completing rounds inside and outside the building, and monitoring security cameras frequently.
- Work with the team to prepare/maintain shelter in readiness for client activities and meals, as well as clean and prepare vacated rooms for occupancy for clients entering the program.
- Communicate with staff to resolve problems by reviewing daily logs, maintaining
- relevant databases, and attending meetings as needed to settle incidents/issues and other relevant challenges.
- Demonstrate care and client support by listening with respect and patience, showing empathy, and providing consistent follow-through.
- Participate in acknowledgment of client progress and celebration of successes.
- Maintain appropriate client boundaries and adhere to the standards set forth in the
- Employee Code of Conduct regarding ethical behavior, confidentiality, and conflicts of interest.
- Interact with visitors, volunteers, clients, and staff in a way that provides the best customer service and fosters community support.
- Promote Operation HOPE-North County by demonstrating courtesy, appreciation, and positive interactions with meal providers, donors, and other community contacts.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- All other duties as assigned.
Experience/Education:
- High school diploma (or GED certificate) and a minimum of six months related experience
- experience and/or training, nonprofit preferred.
- Proficiency in the use of computers for word processing, data entry, email, and
- internet-based tools (e.g., webmail, Google Suite).
- Ability and availability to work flexible and non-traditional work hours
- Bilingual preferred
- CPR-First Aid certification (adult/child/infant) - Preferred - Will provide training if needed
- Mandated Reporter Certificate - Preferred - will provide training if needed
