The Virtualization Administrator II is responsible for managing and maintaining the agency's virtualized IT infrastructure across on-premises and cloud environments. This role ensures the stability, performance, and security of VMware, Hyper-V, and Azure-based virtualization platforms. The administrator contributes to the automation of infrastructure deployment, integration of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) into CI / CD pipelines and provides technical support for virtualization-related projects and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management :
- Administer on-premises virtualization platforms (VMware vSphere, Hyper-V) and cloud-hosted environments (Microsoft Azure, AWS).
- Oversee hardware infrastructure including servers, storage, and hypervisors.
- Install, configure, and maintain virtual machines (VMs) and virtual infrastructure.
- Operations & Support :
- Provide technical support for existing and emerging virtualization technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve issues related to virtualization performance, connectivity, and security.
- Monitor system performance and optimize resource allocation for efficiency.
- Automation & CI / CD :
- Support automation of IT administration and server provisioning using tools such as Azure DevOps, Azure CLI, PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI, and Terraform.
- Integrate virtualization infrastructure into CI / CD pipelines through APIs and Infrastructure as Code.
- Security & Compliance :
- Implement and manage backup and disaster recovery (BDR) solutions.
- Apply required patches, updates, and security configurations to maintain compliance with agency baselines and directives.
- Documentation & Collaboration :
- Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Work closely with other IT teams to ensure integration of virtualization solutions into broader IT systems.
- Assist in planning and execution of IT initiatives and projects related to virtualization.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent experience3 to 5 years of hands-on experience in virtualization administration.Demonstrated expertise in :Managing VMware vSphere environments.Supporting virtualization infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.Automation using Azure DevOps, Azure Automation, PowerShell, VMware PowerCLI, and Terraform (or similar IaC tools).Preferred Certifications :
