The Durham County Sheriff's Office is seeking qualified candidates who embody the values and diversity of the Durham County community. If you are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement, submit your application for a BlET Deputy Sheriff Cadet (non-certified) position. Selected candidates will attend the Basic Law Enforcement Training Academy (BlET) and the Field Operations Training (FTO). Upon successful completion of all training requirements, the Deputy Sheriff Cadet will be certified as a BlET Law Enforcement Officer. BlET certified officers are eligible for available Deputy Sheriff positions.

In a controlled environment be able to execute the following :

• Performs general law enforcement duties to include patrolling the County during an assigned shift, answering calls for service.
• Enforces the federal, state, and local laws.
• Provides security for the courts of the State of North Carolina.
• Transports prisoners, mental patients, and inebriates.
• Serves both civil and criminal processes as directed by the courts.
• Assist other local, state, and federal agencies in their law enforcement functions.
• Investigate crimes through assignment or develops cases to investigate.
• Performs special assignments or tasks, including under-cover and clerical.
• Prepares reports as required by Office policy.
• Performs other duties as required by the Sheriff.
