TriSource is seeking a passionate and dedicated Immigration Attorney to provide legal services to unaccompanied children in or recently released from ORR (Office of Refugee Resettlement) custody. The attorney will represent minors in a variety of immigration-related matters, including but not limited to :
Location : Richmond, VA (Frequent travel within Hampton Roads, Newport News and to the Immigration Court in Arlington, VA)
- Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS)
- Removal defense
- State court proceedings
- Appeals
- Legal screenings
- Know Your Rights (KYR) presentations
You will also assist unrepresented children with legal referrals, preparation for immigration court, release requests, and filing essential immigration documents.
Key Responsibilities
Represent minors in immigration and related state court mattersDraft motions, briefs, personal declarations, and immigration formsConduct legal screenings and Know Your Rights presentationsTravel frequently for client meetings and court appearances.Coordinate with law enforcement and social service agencies as neededSupervise a legal fellow, interns, and volunteer legal staffMaintain accurate records, case files, and database entriesSubmit timely reports and invoices as required by fundersParticipate in naturalization workshops and community eventsEnsure legal compliance with all ethical and program standardsQualifications
Juris Doctor (JD) degree requiredLicensed to practice law in Virginia (Required), or :DOJ Accredited Representative; orLaw graduate eligible to appear before EOIR under supervisionMinimum 1 year of experience in family-based or humanitarian immigration lawFamiliarity with trauma-informed legal practices strongly preferredCulturally competent and committed to serving vulnerable populationsPreferred Experience
Experience working with unaccompanied minorsSpanish or other relevant language proficiency is a plusPrior work with non-profit or community-based legal servicesWork Environment
Based in Richmond, VAIn-office role with regular travel required within the Newport News region and to Arlington Immigration CourtSalary $75,000 / YR
