Operations Manager I

The Terminal Security Solutions Operations Manager is responsible for managing all contracts and personnel assigned to his / her region / location. The Operations Manager ensures the company is in compliance with and executes all facility security plans and other related federal and state regulations.

Position Responsibilities

  • Plans, manages, or coordinates the operations of all assigned Facilities in assigned contract(s) and / or region.
  • Plans, organizes and oversees the work of subordinate staff including but not limited to Office Manager Assistant Ops Manager, Terminal Security Officers and Training Specialist to ensure that the customer and third-party directives are accomplished and adheres to company policies.
  • Responsible for planning and overseeing recruitment efforts to secure part-time hourly work force and scheduling support team needed to execute. This includes the onboarding process of each employee.
  • Responsible for ensuring new hires have necessary requirements and licenses i.e. Class D license & TWIC card.
  • Planning training classes needed to meet operational needs and staffing numbers, including : MTSA & Orientation, Safeguarding, Secondary Officer and Screening Courses.
  • In collaboration with leadership team responsible for overseeing training and development to meet client and internal needs to meet compliance standards for job execution and for upward mobility.
  • Responsible for overseeing Training Specialist schedule (operational and non-operational days), distribution of training materials and ensuring all training is being delivered correctly.
  • Delivers training classes as necessary, to meet operational needs and staffing numbers, including : MTSA & Orientation, Safeguarding, Secondary Officer and Screening Courses.
  • In collaboration with Office Manager, responsible for scheduling all Security Officers according to agreed templates via scheduling system, this includes non-operational days (trainings, orientations, etc.) as well as crew member Safeguard duties / jobs to safeguard officers.
  • Develop and maintain close relations with internal (TSS Team) and external (Guests, Ship Personnel, DHS, CBP, Port Authorities, Coast Guard, Ground Staff, Stevedores, Port Police, Port Agent, etc.) customers.
  • Primary contact who communicates with clients to ensure Operational integrity and standards are being met, reports service level shortfalls and other incidents to TSS senior management and implements appropriate corrective actions.
  • Responsible for managing conduct of staff and taking applicable counseling or disciplinary actions in conjunction with HR. To include disciplinary actions as a result of the attendance policy and NCNS policy.
  • Responsible to ensure Assist. Operations Manager (if applicable), TSO, and Supervision are following all HR related requirements and procedures as they pertain to the hourly staff you oversee.
  • Ensuring payroll is accurate and completed within a timely manner.
  • Responsible to ensure the invoices are accurate and completed on a weekly basis.
  • Ensures full compliance (with support of leadership team) and proper execution of approved / applicable Facility Security Plans (FSP), MTSA and all applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Properly safe keeps all associated Sensitive Security Information (SSI) materials.
  • Manages all required maintenance for TSS equipment, to include but not limited to (where applicable) : X-ray units and magnetometers, company vehicles, all issued company property and technology, VHF two-way radios and bank chargers
  • Compile report needed for investigations to verify and resolve customer, federal authorities and employee complaints and send to Director of Operations and Director of Compliance for review.
  • Ensures all required client and internal reports are executed in a timely manner and assists where necessary.
  • Ensure reporting of suspicious activities to local authorities.
  • Attend designated Port Operation meetings and distribute necessary information to management and affected staff.
  • Reviews with Director of Operations monthly financial results of their location and explains variances.
  • Ensure that highest standards of safety, security and environmental compliance are maintained throughout operations.
  • Responsible for reporting and / or ensuring the team has reported all work-related incidents / accidents internally through EHS as well as to cruise line management in a timely manner. Phone internal hotline to report major accident details.
  • Ensure Security officers working in high temperatures are equipped with provided safety tools : Hat, Water, Liquid Electrolytes
  • Monitors staff dress code and uniform compliance of staff.
  • Maintain and order office supplies, as needed
  • Additional duties as required.

Education and / or Work Experience :

  • Equivalent of an Associate's Degree in a related field of study and 5-8+ years progressively responsible, related experience. Bachelor's degree, preferred.
  • At least five (5) years working in security related industry managing teams of people
  • Customer Service experience.
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • TWIC Card
  • State Security Officer License required.
  • State Security Manager License preferred
  • Screener Certification (provided by company)
  • FSO Certification (provided by company)
  • Elevated Verbal & Written communication skills and report writing in English
  • Experience utilizing online payroll and scheduling systems
  • Computer literacy (laptop / tablet / other electronic equipment)
  • Able to work weekends and holidays based on operations schedule
  • Able to travel and support other operations as required
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Physical Demands

  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
  • Must be able to stand a minimum of 8 hours at a time.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to talk, listen and speak clearly on a telephone / VHF two-way radio
