Neuropsychologist - Concussion Management (Workers Compensation, Public Safety Focus)

Location - Central Indiana (Indianapolis and surrounding areas)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Neuropsychologist with 3-5 years of experience to join our team, specializing in concussion management for workers compensation cases, with a significant focus on patients from the public safety sector (e.g., police officers, firefighters, paramedics). The role involves assessing, diagnosing, and treating patients with mild traumatic brain injuries (mTBIs), particularly concussions, sustained in workplace incidents. You will collaborate with healthcare providers, public safety agencies, employers, and insurance carriers to develop evidence-based treatment plans and support patients safe return to critical public safety roles. This position is based in Central Indiana, serving patients in Indianapolis and nearby communities.

Key Responsibilities

Assessment & Diagnosis:

  • Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to assess cognitive, emotional, and behavioral impacts of concussions, tailored to the unique demands of public safety professionals.
  • Utilize standardized testing and clinical interviews to diagnose mTBIs and post-concussion syndrome, considering high-stress occupational contexts.
  • Document findings to support workers compensation claims, ensuring compliance with Indiana regulations (e.g., IC 22-3-3-10).

Treatment & Rehabilitation:

  • Develop individualized treatment plans, including cognitive rehabilitation, behavioral interventions, and workplace accommodations, to meet the rigorous physical and mental demands of public safety roles.
  • Provide patient education on concussion recovery, symptom management, and gradual return-to-duty strategies, emphasizing readiness for high-stakes environments.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., neurologists, occupational therapists, chiropractors) to optimize outcomes for public safety personnel.

Workers Compensation & Public Safety Support:

  • Prepare detailed reports for insurance carriers, attorneys, public safety agencies, and employers, linking symptoms to workplace injuries and addressing fitness-for-duty requirements.
  • Testify as an expert witness in workers compensation hearings, particularly for cases involving public safety professionals, when required.
  • Collaborate with vocational rehabilitation specialists and public safety supervisors to implement workplace accommodations and return-to-duty protocols.

Research & Compliance:

  • Stay updated on concussion management guidelines and workers compensation laws in Indiana, with an emphasis on standards relevant to public safety occupations.
  • Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, ensuring best practices in mTBI care for public safety personnel

Qualifications

Education & Licensure:

  • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Clinical Psychology or Neuropsychology from an APA-accredited program.
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a Psychologist in Indiana (HSPP endorsement required).
  • Board certification in Clinical Neuropsychology (ABPP-CN) preferred but not required.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years of postdoctoral experience in clinical neuropsychology, with a focus on traumatic brain injury or concussion management.
  • Experience with workers compensation cases, particularly involving public safety professionals, and familiarity with legal and fitness-for-duty processes, strongly preferred.

Skills:

  • Expertise in neuropsychological assessment tools and concussion-specific protocols, with sensitivity to the cognitive and emotional demands of public safety roles.
  • Strong communication skills for patient education, interdisciplinary collaboration with public safety agencies, and legal testimony.
  • Ability to navigate complex cases involving psychological, cognitive, and occupational factors unique to first responders.
  • Proficiency in EHR systems and report generation.

Compensation

  • Base Salary Range: $100,000 - $120,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Total Compensation: $110,000 - $130,000, including bonuses, incentives, and benefits (e.g., health insurance, CME allowance, 401(k)).

Additional Notes:

  • Compensation aligns with regional market data for neuropsychologists in Indiana with 3-5 years of experience.
  • Higher earning potential possible with productivity bonuses or expert witness testimony, especially given the specialized public safety caseload.
  • Benefits package includes paid time off, professional development support, and malpractice insurance.

Work Environment

  • Setting: Outpatient clinic with options for hybrid work (telehealth for follow-ups where permitted).
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday, with flexibility to accommodate patient needs and legal obligations, including occasional coordination with public safety schedules.
  • Culture: Collaborative, patient-centered team committed to excellence in brain injury care and supporting injured public safety professionals.

Why Join Us?

  • Make a meaningful impact by helping public safety professionals recover and return to their critical roles protecting our communities.
  • Work with a supportive, multidisciplinary team in a growing healthcare network with strong ties to public safety agencies.
  • Access opportunities for professional growth, including CME, research, and leadership roles focused on mTBI in high-risk occupations.
  • Enjoy the vibrant community and quality of life in Central Indiana.

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
