Our Story

At Tandem Coffee, we believe in the power of great coffee, exceptional baked goods, and fostering a community vibe that keeps people coming back. Since opening in 2012 in Portland, Maine, we’ve grown into a community hub for locals and visitors alike. We roast our own coffee and have two cafe locations in Portland - our first is on Anderson St in Portland's popular East Bayside which operates as a tasting room to our roastery there with elevated coffee service and selections. The second is a James Beard-nominated bakery on Congress St in Portland's West End that has been featured in Bon Appétit.

Who You Are

In this role, you will assist the head baker and the bakery team with areas of pastry and food preparation. This job is a wonderful opportunity to be an integral support role in a small but busy kitchen with very high standards, while being part of a close knit team of bakers, baristas, and managers. This is not a pastry-forward position, but rather a prep position.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll :

• Be able to take direction and have focus in a loud and busy kitchen
• Provide pleasant and attentive assistance with coworkers and customers when needed
• Have a sense of urgency and creativity
• Ask for help when needed
• Have excellent communication skills
• Follow recipes and lists accurately
• Weight and measure ingredients accurately
• Store and label ingredients and food accurately
• Consolidate and restock
• Have comfort and skill with manual and electric tools such as ovens, mixers, small appliances
• Perform basic cooking and baking tasks with efficiency and focus
• Maintain a high level of cleanliness and organization
• Maintain quality and consistency with all projects
• Communicate inventory / supply needs

Job Details

This is an hourly, full-time position scheduled to begin as soon as possible. Shifts start no earlier than 12pm. Weekend day availability is a must! This position is full time and reports to the Kitchen Manager.
