Senior Estimating Manager – Electrical Utility Construction
A leading electrical contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Estimating Manager to oversee all preconstruction and estimating operations within its growing electrical utility division. This role requires a strategic leader who can elevate teams, refine processes, and drive winning results while upholding the organization’s core values.
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in electrical utility preconstruction—particularly in renewable energy and substation projects—and a proven ability to mentor, develop, and lead high-performing teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute preconstruction and estimating strategies to support regional growth goals.
- Ensure department scalability by improving systems, processes, team structure, and workflows.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients while supporting budgeting, scheduling, and project requirements.
- Oversee the quality of all preconstruction services, including estimates, schedules, constructability reviews, value engineering, and risk assessments.
- Participate in design meetings and ensure all construction documents are accurate and aligned with project objectives.
- Analyze potential risks and communicate findings to senior leadership.
- Develop project-specific client management strategies and maintain clear communication with stakeholders.
- Collaborate with estimating leadership to shape bid strategies, vendor partnerships, and proposal packages.
- Direct the bid proposal process, including subcontractor outreach and bid document development.
- Lead interview and presentation strategies for client pursuits.
- Support project handoff from estimating to operations and assist project management teams as needed during early construction phases.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Electrical Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.10+ years of experience in preconstruction or related functions, including at least 5 years in a leadership role in electrical preconstruction.Experience with large electrical utility projects ranging from $5M to $50M, particularly in renewable energy (solar, BESS) and substation work.Proven experience leading an estimating department.Strong knowledge of electrical construction in large commercial or utility environments.Ability to consistently drive results that meet or exceed company goals.Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.Ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients, contractors, and vendors.Expertise with Microsoft Office, Primavera, Bluebeam, and Accubid / Live Count.
