Job description

Position Purpose : Provide medical oversight, expertise, and leadership to ensure cost-effective, quality healthcare services to health plan members.

  • Act as a clinical advisor and educator to medical management staff, ensuring accurate clinical judgment in all medical management decisions.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and interpretation of medical review and quality-related policies and guidelines.
  • Oversee staff and provider training and education initiatives.
  • Foster positive relations with the local medical community through regular consultations with providers and prescribers.
  • Analyze case management data to identify trends and gaps in care, recommending appropriate corrective actions.
  • Review quality of care issues and direct the implementation of improvement processes.
  • Monitor performance indicators to guarantee the provision of cost-effective care within established quality standards.
  • Evaluate member and provider satisfaction, recommending and applying changes to enhance satisfaction levels.
  • Collaborate to establish corporate clinical care standards and medical practice policies.
  • Provide medical guidance to the Medical Management department, ensuring alignment with best practices.

Education / Experience :

  • Medical Doctor (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathy (DO) required.
  • Minimum of 7 years clinical experience in medical practice required.
  • Management experience is preferred.
  • Preferred experience in Utilization Management and familiarity with quality accreditation standards.
  • Preferably, actively practicing medicine and offering leadership in the local medical community.
  • Coursework in Health Administration, Health Financing, Insurance, and / or Personnel Management is preferred.
  • Experience in treating or managing a culturally diverse population is preferred.
  • Licenses / Certifications :

  • Board certification in a medical specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialists is required.
  • Certification in a primary care specialty is preferred.
  • Must hold a current Texas state license as an MD or DO without restrictions, limitations, or sanctions from government programs.
  • For Superior HealthPlan : Must reside in Texas, required.

    Compensation : $271,000.00 - $515,500.00 per year

    Centene provides a comprehensive benefits package including competitive pay, health insurance, 401K and stock purchase plans, tuition reimbursement, paid time off plus holidays, and a flexible work approach with options for remote, hybrid, field, or office work schedules. Actual pay will be adjusted based on individual skills, experience, education, and other job-related factors, including full-time or part-time status. Total compensation may also include additional forms of incentives. Benefits may vary based on program eligibility.
