Commercial Credit Analyst
A member of the Commercial Credit team that partners with senior team members supporting the duties of underwriting and the on-going monitoring of a portfolio of credit relationships. Responsible for performing supporting analysis, identifying risk issues, and completing sections of credit analysis, as needed, to assess the creditworthiness of commercial clients.
Primary responsibilities include facilitating the credit needs of customers by analyzing new requests and material modifications from deal screen through approval and for the life of the loan, managing the ongoing credit risk of existing loan portfolios through continuous credit monitoring activities, reviewing all pertinent credit and financial information, analyzing financial information and related materials and completing the credit analyses for the Bank's commercial transactions, making appropriate structure recommendations based on an analysis and evaluation of scenarios, identifying suspicious activity and activity that may be contrary to customer's interest, partnering proactively with relationship managers, spreading financial statements and preparing financial / projection models, entering complete and accurate data into Bank systems, attending client / prospect calls with relationship managers, presenting analysis or addressing questions during credit request discussions or committee presentations, assisting in monitoring credit policy compliance, understanding and adhering to applicable compliance / operational risk controls, promoting an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand, maintaining M&T internal control standards, and completing other duties as assigned.
Scope of responsibilities includes the credit delivery of the Bank's commercial clients throughout the credit lifecycle, ensuring the accurate completion of the Bank's risk rating scorecards and financial statement spreads, and working independently under general supervision.
Supervisory / managerial responsibilities are not applicable.
Education and experience required include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics or related field and a minimum of one year's work experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation / analysis or other financial analysis, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years' higher education and / or work experience, including of one year work experience in commercial credit, public accounting, financial statement preparation / analysis or other financial analysis. Strong verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical ability, critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail with a high level of accuracy, strong organizational and time management skills, ability to work independently and as a part of a team, customer focused with strong interpersonal skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Office are also required.
Education and experience preferred include experience with Capital IQ, FactSet, and Bloomberg.
