Our customer in Springfield is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer with strong expertise in heat-treating processes to support our production and engineering teams. This role is responsible for ensuring the integrity, performance, and reliability of metallic components by developing, controlling, and continuously improving heat-treatment processes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and refine heat-treating procedures for ferrous and non-ferrous materials used in production.
Analyze material properties and recommend alloys, heat-treat cycles, and coatings based on performance and design requirements.
Ensure quality and process control standards are metfocusing on hardness, microstructure, and mechanical properties.
Provide technical support to production teams, including troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for material and process-related issues.
Collaborate with quality, maintenance, and operations teams to maintain compliance with ISO, CQI-9, and customer-specific standards.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date technical documentation, including specifications, control plans, and metallurgical reports.
Perform failure analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions.
Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives in heat-treating and materials processing.
Stay up-to-date with advancements in materials science and heat-treatment technology.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 3 years of experience in heat-treating or metallurgical processes in a manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of metallurgy, phase transformations, and material characterization.
Hands-on experience with furnace operations, process control, and CQI-9 compliance.
Proficient in hardness testing, microstructure evaluation, and metallographic analysis.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
Effective communicator with the ability to work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in automotive, aerospace, or precision manufacturing environments.
Knowledge of vacuum, induction, or controlled-atmosphere furnace systems.
Familiarity with heat-treat simulation software and data-collection systems.
CQI-9 certification or advanced metallurgical quality training.
