Manager, Sport Planning and Operations

LA28 is the independent, non-profit, privately funded organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We are on a singular mission to create an Olympic and Paralympic Games that celebrate all that this city and country have to offer, delivering an unparalleled experience for athletes, fans, partners and our community.

The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles' third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. This presents the unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy with the Games and push the Olympic and Paralympic Movements forward, writing a new chapter of Games history in Los Angeles.

Manager, Sport Planning and Operations

The Sport Planning and Operations Manager will play a critical role within the LA28 Sport team, leading on venue level stakeholder planning, Sport operations within the Olympic & Paralympic Village and centralized function planning. This role will report to the Senior Manager, Sport Stakeholders and Operations and work across Sport, including Sport Planning and Operations and Competition Management, to progress deliverables related to the planning of sport services for athletes at competition and training venues as well as Sport's operations in the Villages.

Key Responsibilities :

Venue Level Stakeholder Planning

  • Review and feedback on other Functional Areas' policies and procedures that impact Sport and sport stakeholders (e.g., Athletes and Team Officials) across competition and training venues, including but not limited to Transportation, Food and Beverage, Accessibility and Logistics.
  • Support cross-functional workstreams and centralized requests around National Governing Bodies (NGBs) and sport communities (e.g., sport initiation, sport equipment, etc.)
  • Lead on cross-functional projects that involve sport operations and stakeholders, presenting assessments of sport specific requirements and service levels across competition and training venues
  • Ensure consistency in the plans for services to athletes and team officials at competition and training venues
  • Support sport specific planning for services that must consider athlete and team behaviors, needs and profiles such as transport, arrivals and departures, and food and beverage
  • Identify solutions for athlete and teams' performance review requirements including working with Olympic Broadcast Services for efficient solutions that meet required service levels as well as with Villages and Competition Management to identify spaces for performance review
  • Work closely with National Olympic & Paralympic Committee Services (NCS) and Sport Competition Management to support Pre-Games policies, communications, and virtual presentations

Village Operations Planning

  • Develop scope and services of Games-time operations for Sport Information Center(s) and Sport Village Operations, including services provided at Satellite Villages and / or additional accommodations
  • Develop operating plans for Sport Information Center(s) and Sport Village Operations, including athlete weigh-in and sport-specific locations, and contributing to the overall Village Operating Plan
  • Manage the relationship, coordinate the planning, and support the integration of the external delivery partner who provides Wheelchair and Prosthetic Repair services in the Paralympic Village, competition and training venues.
  • Act as the point of contact in Sport for Village Management for any planning related to Sport Operations or other sport specific requirements at the Villages (excluding training and sport equipment)
  • Sport Planning, Program Management, and Function Reporting

  • Act as a point of entry in Sport for other LA28 Functions to request sport information for planning purposes
  • Support and champion Sport education across the organization, providing opportunities and content to engage the workforce in learning about Olympic and Paralympic sports
  • Coordinate with Sport Competition on the collection and validation of centralized requests for planning information from other Functions
  • Validate and update key sport information within the LA28 Data Warehouse and other source of truth documents
  • Provide reports and updates on the status of related milestones and deliverables within the Sport department
  • Author Sport updates, presentations and reports to be used internally and externally to communicate progress and issues within the Sport department
  • Support the development of budgets and project plans with well researched and validated information
  • Background & Qualifications :

  • 5+ years' experience in project and program management, ideally in the sport's industry
  • Experience working cross-functionally on project delivery
  • Extremely detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills and ability to work independently to resolve issues
  • Fluent working with Office suite products including Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Self-starter with experience in defining tasks, seeking feedback, and evolving work
  • Required proven ability of building good interpersonal relationships with people across the organization, while balancing assertiveness with diplomacy
  • Ability to implement and manage change effectively
  • Demonstrated commitment to co-creation and collaborative decision-making
  • Experience considering diverse groups of athletes in Sport planning and delivery, with special attention to how ability, gender, and other identities impact different athletes' experiences.
  • Position Requirements :

  • The position is in Los Angeles with in-person attendance required.
  • The majority of work may be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment
  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.

  • The annual base salary range for this position is $88,000.00 - $105,000.00. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28's operational business needs and applicable law.

    LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
