Princeton in Asia (PiA)

Princeton in Asia is an independent non-profit organization affiliated with Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey. PiA believes in the power of person-to-person diplomacy and works to foster mutual appreciation and cross-cultural understanding between the United States and Asia. Since 1898, we've placed over 3,400 people in immersive fellowships and internships in countries throughout Asia. The cross-cultural understanding developed through these posts actively and effectively builds bridges between the U.S. and Asia.

Position Overview

The Development Coordinator will play a key role in advancing PiA's fundraising and donor engagement goals. This position supports annual giving campaigns, contributes to donor stewardship, coordinates development events, and provides essential support to leadership in donor communications, reporting, and database management. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and motivated by the opportunity to strengthen donor relationships and drive philanthropic growth in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

Compensation and Benefits

This full-time, salaried position is based in Princeton, NJ, with flexible hybrid work options. The role offers an annual salary of $50,000; benefits include a 3% retirement contribution, 401(k) plan, premium-free health and dental insurance, paid time off (three weeks of vacation, sick days upon request, 10 holidays, two personal days), and an annual wellness stipend; and opportunities for professional development.

Key Responsibilities

Annual Giving Campaigns

  • Support planning and execution of annual giving campaigns, including personalized solicitations to alumni, leadership-level donors ($1,000-$4,999), and participation-level donors ($1-$999).
  • Help ensure annual fundraising targets are met, including the cohort-based matching challenges, leadership giving, and participation-level giving goals.

Donor Stewardship

  • Send timely acknowledgments and thank you communications tailored to donor giving levels.
  • Prepare impact reports, donor stories, and stewardship updates, including the Annual Report and PiA's digital newsletter.
  • Ensure major donors, named fund donors, and legacy donors receive personalized updates each year.
  • Event Planning and Support

  • Support the organization of PiA's development events, including the Annual Dinner, Reunions, and regional events.
  • Oversee event logistics, including venue booking, save-the-date and invitation mailings, sponsorship and ticket tracking, and attendee follow-up.
  • Ensure all events meet sponsorship, attendance, and fundraising goals while engaging and stewarding PiA's donor community.
  • Database and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate donor records and produce reports on donor retention, engagement, and first-time giving trends.
  • Support leadership in preparing reports for the Development Committee, board members, and key stakeholders.
  • Leadership Support

  • Provide administrative and communications support to the Director of Finance, Development, and Operations (DFDO) and the Executive Director in stewarding major donors, event sponsors, and board members.
  • Schedule Development Committee meetings, circulate notes, and support preparation of donor trend reports.

  • Collaborative and proactive : Thrives in a small team environment while taking initiative and working independently.
  • Required Qualifications

  • 2-3 years' experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related administrative role.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfort with donor databases, CRM systems, and Microsoft / Google productivity tools.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with donor stewardship and annual giving campaigns.
  • Event planning or event fundraising experience.
  • Knowledge of best practices in donor communications and engagement.
  • Familiarity with data tracking, financial reporting, and development analytics.
