Shipping Supervisor

Position Summary
The shipping supervisor will have primary responsibility for supervising and coordinating with all departments and sales the schedule for shipping and loading of trucks. They will oversee or perform administrative duties preparing the necessary paperwork for accurate billing of orders and correct inventories. Assure all procedures are followed in achieving the highest level of productivity in the most cost-efficient manner possible, while still maintaining customer specifications. Direct a team of employees, ensuring compliance with all food safety programs, and enforcing all policies. Responsible for employees' performance, development, safety, and work schedule.
Key Requirements
- Examine contents and compare records, such as invoices, orders to ensure accuracy of incoming and outgoing shipments.
- Confers with Retail / Shipping / Process superintendent to rectify problems, such as damage, shortages, and nonconformance to specifications.
- Oversee, pack, seal, label, and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools, and postage meter.
- Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability, damage and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting and record keeping purposes.
- Computes amounts, such as space availability, shipping, storage, and demurrage charges, using calculator or price list.
- Promote safety throughout area where crew is working.
- Applies production schedule in assigning work to employees to meet established schedules and quality of all manufactured meat products. Prepares all required production activities and quality records and reports.
- Checks operations regularly to ensure that processes, schedules, quality and safety standards are maintained.
- Executes the scheduling of employees' vacation, holidays and starting times. Approve department employees' time and attendance weekly.
- Coordinates activities of department with other production departments to maintain proper product flow.
- Investigates, in cooperation with other departments, areas of quality improvement, cost reduction, method improvement, yield control and equipment maintenance and provides suggestions.
- Maintains assigned areas in clean, orderly condition. Assures that areas are safe and safe working practices are followed. Exercises proper care and maintenance of assigned tools, equipment and facilities.
- Trains new employees in the safe, efficient operation of equipment.
- Handles employee concerns in accordance with the established policy. Manages employee performance, providing positive and / or corrective feedback.
- Promote department and company goodwill through pro-active employee communication and employee involvement.
- Other job duties as needed.
Qualifications
High School Diploma / GED required, College Degree in related field preferred.3 or more years of previous Shipping Lead or supervisor experience.Poultry or food industry experience a plus.Previous leadership skills with 5 or more employees.Effective communication both orally and in writing.Capable of independent decision making.Must have basic computer knowledge.Ability to manage multiple priorities.Bilingual (English / Spanish) preferred.Other Requirements
Must have 20 / 20 corrected vision. Must possess color vision.Must be able to climb stairs to view processes.Must comply with all safety rules and instructions, participate in the company training programs, and make every effort to learn, develop, and upgrade skills required for this job classification.Work Environment
Will be required to access the production environment. Must be able to tolerate the varied heat, wetness and chill of the plant. Hearing and eye protective equipment required in the production area. Required to wear hair and beard nets in the production area.
