Reporting to : Chief Science Officer and Senior Scientist

Your role in the mission :

Type One Energy is seeking a Fusion Scientist with experience in advanced computational modelling and simulation tools to assess divertor performance on our fusion devices.

As a Fusion Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of plasma-material interactions and optimizing divertor designs for our stellarator device.

You will also collaborate with external research institutions and industry partners to leverage expertise and resources for divertor research and development

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of Physicists and Engineers to design and optimize divertor configurations for stellarator fusion devices.
  • Analyze experimental data to identify key trends, phenomena, and performance metrics related to divertor operation.
  • Develop and implement innovative strategies to improve divertor performance, such as novel magnetic field configurations, advanced material coatings, and innovative divertor geometries.
  • Contribute to the development and enhancement of computational codes and models for plasma simulation and divertor analysis.
  • Stay current with advancements in divertor physics, plasma-facing materials, and fusion energy research to inform and guide experimental and theoretical efforts .

What you’ll need :

  • Ph.D. in Plasma Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field with a focus on fusion energy research.
  • Proven expertise in divertor physics, plasma-material interactions, and plasma edge modeling for magnetic confinement fusion devices, preferably stellarators
  • Strong proficiency in computational plasma physics, including numerical simulations, modeling of plasma transport, and interpretation of simulation results.
  • Experience with experimental plasma physics, including plasma diagnostics, data analysis, and interpretation of experimental results.
  • Familiarity with plasma-facing materials, surface physics, and material science principles relevant to fusion energy applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment, including strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or Fortran for data analysis and numerical simulations
  • Prior experience with stellarator physics and technology is advantageous but not required.
