General Summary Statement
Under the supervision of the Administrative Laboratory Director, manages, assesses and coordinates all lab system operations, integrations and communications with Information Technologies (IT) department. This position works closely with IT at Chester County Hospital and Penn Medicine to be sure the lab systems are functioning properly. Assists the Laboratory Administrative team to ensure the Clinical Laboratory maintains accreditation compliance with the CAP, TJC, CLIA, AABB, and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Provides oversight to in-patient and out-patient phlebotomy. Demonstrates the ability to collaborate with a positive demeanor. Complies with department and hospital policies, procedures, objectives, and standards.

In-patient and Out-Patient PhlebotomyManages the Phleobotomy Supervisor to ensure efficient workflow of in-patient and out-patient staff / processesPre-analytic quality monitoring and report presentationJudgementIdentifies problems and resolutions on an ongoing basis using appropriate resourcesAppropriately delegates responsibilities based on knowledge and skill to accommodate short and long term strategies and objectives.Assures that delegated duties are performed according to required standardsCommunicationDisplays a cooperative attitude and responds with respect to directions and recommendations from supervisor.Provides appropriate clear, accurate, and timely intradepartmental communications :Creates and manages policies and procedures that facilitate complianceMonitors that procedures have been read and reviewed in the document control system. Communicate any lapses to laboratory section supervisors.Quality Assurance (QA)If needed, assists in creating monitors for the Laboratory QA PlanUse the lab system to pull all monthly reports and specific data to populate the lab quality database.Laboratory Information SystemOperations – Understand laboratory system operations and how Sunquest,CoPath,EPIC and Mobile MD interact to provide results. This includes outpatient collections sites.
Laboratory Systems Maintenance – Prepare all requests for lab system maintenance and submit them to IT. Track all requests for completion and document changes for regulatory compliance.Perform any basic system maintenance as approved by IT.System Database Maintenance – Update Sunquest and CoPath directories for all new and changed providers. Maintain the fax server for Sunquest and CoPath, and assure chutes and faxes are sent as needed.Compendiums – Assist in maintaining laboratory test compendiums for each downstream system.These will include all information required for use. Communicate any changes made to downstream system users.Regulatory Compliance – Keep up to date with all lab information system regulations and assure compliance.Lab System Policy and Procedures – Assist in maintaining all laboratory documents that apply to the lab system in accordance with all regulatory agencies.Testing –Work with IT to provide scripts for testing any system that must interact with lab data. Testing must be recorded, compiled, evaluated and approved.Training – Prepare materials and train all lab personnel in use of all systems.Ad Hoc Reporting – Use the lab system reporting mechanism (Ad Hoc Report Writer) to generate data and report to end users. Maintain all reports on the server.Lab Result Flow – Work with IT to document all information paths from the lab system. This should be kept up to date so alternatives can be considered during downtime.Investigate and respond to all missing result or patient problem inquiries, referring to IT as needed.Other duties – Perform other functions as requested by lab leadership.Education Training and Experience
Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology with eligibility of MLT / MLS (ASCP). Five (5) years supervisory experience preferred. Extensive knowledge and experience in general laboratory and health care. Knowledge of Medicare Compliance regulations preferred.
Experience in Sunquest, CoPath, EPIC and Beaker preferred. Experience with MS Office software including Access and Crystal Reports preferred.
Licensure / Certification Required
ASCP certification or eligible
