Position Summary
This position is responsible for research, writing, and development of editorial copy as approved by the Chief Editor for each issue of AWS's magazines, Welding Journal, Inspection Trends, and SPRAYTIME, as well as our online content hub Welding Digest. A primary responsibility for this role will be working on our peer-reviewed research supplement of the magazine, Welding Journal Research Supplement (WJRS), which is published monthly in print and online.
Essential Duties
- Proofreads copy, including articles, research papers, and departments.
- Edits feature articles and research papers to prepare them for publication.
- Serve as principal point of contact for Welding Journal Research Supplement, including relationships with authors, scholars, and researchers from the international materials joining community.
- Edit scholarly technical peer-reviewed articles, and correspond with all research authors through the editorial and production process.
- Work closely with the production team to track supplement assignments in log.
- Selects press releases and other items for inclusion in pertinent departments.
- Writes and / or edits department copy.
- Researches and writes feature articles as assigned.
- Other duties as needed or required.

B.A. or B.S. in Journalism, Communications, or English.Two years' experience in trade journalism or technical writing.Experience working for a non-profit organization desirable.Special Requirements, Licenses, or Certifications

Working Conditions and Required Physical Abilities
When working on site, this position is located in a quiet to moderately noisy indoor office environment. Must be available for travel to industry events and locales for original reporting assignments. May be required to work evenings or weekends.
Bulk of work may be performed remotely; must attend meetings on site.Individuals in this type of position must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate with other employees and the public through use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, sit, stand, hear, use of fingers in order to handle, feel or operate objects and write. Must have the physical capabilities to move about the office and to effectively use and operate various items of office-related equipment, such as but not limited to personal computer, calculator, copy and fax machines. Must be able to remain seated at a keyboard or desk for extended periods. Must be able to lift, carry, and / or push / pull articles weighing up to 20 lbs.
