The Role :
The Vice President, Category Strategy – Building Materials Procurement will lead QXO’s direct procurement organization, overseeing a team of category managers responsible for high‑spend, complex building materials categories. This executive will design and execute enterprise‑wide category strategies, negotiate large‑scale supplier agreements, and elevate supplier partnerships to deliver both bottom‑line EBITDA improvement and top‑line growth.
Success in this role requires mastery of three core skills :
- Category Strategy Development in complex, high-spend direct categories.
- Negotiation Mastery on large-scale, high-impact supplier agreements.
- Strategic Supplier Management and Development to unlock innovation, reduce risk, and build competitive advantage
What you’ll do :
Lead category strategy development across all direct building materials categories, aligning sourcing plans with QXO’s growth and profitability goals.Manage, inspire, and develop a team of category managers, embedding world‑class strategic sourcing methodologies and playbooks.Drive enterprise negotiations on major supplier agreements, using advanced approaches such as game theory, should‑cost modeling, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).Elevate supplier partnerships through scorecards, joint business planning, innovation pipelines, and structured risk management.Collaborate closely with merchandising, supply chain, operations, and finance to ensure procurement directly enables business priorities.Partner with suppliers to drive private label development and differentiated offerings that expand revenue and customer value.Integrate AI, digital sourcing platforms, and predictive analytics into sourcing processes to create a best‑in‑class, technology‑enabled procurement function.Serve as a trusted executive leader, strengthening supplier and stakeholder collaboration while driving measurable EBITDA impact.What you’ll bring :
15+ years of progressive direct procurement and sourcing experience, with a strong focus on building materials or other complex direct categories.Proven track record of leading high‑value negotiations and delivering sustainable, measurable results.Deep expertise in category strategy, supplier segmentation, governance, SRM, and risk management.Skilled at balancing fact‑based, disciplined negotiations with trust‑based supplier relationships that drive innovation and growth.Hands‑on experience embedding AI, analytics, and digital sourcing tools into procurement.Strong commercial acumen, able to optimize cost while enabling innovation and top‑line growth.Authentic, inspiring leader who elevates team capability, supplier performance, and stakeholder trust.Impact
