JOB SUMMARY :

The Residence Director (RD) is a live-in professional who co-supervises Resident Assistant (RA) staff, to facilitate and develop a nurturing community, manages programming initiatives, collaborates with campus offices / departments, and assists with overall operations of Lourdes Commons.

RDs are live-in professionals who are expected to support department, division and University strategic planning initiatives and learning outcomes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Student Development Educator

  • Create and maintain a positive, multicultural, learner-centered community.
  • Promote, encourage, and reward student learning, academic success, and co-curricular participation.
  • Foster an atmosphere of respect for individual differences and community values.
  • Encourage student safety and security.
  • Communicate and promote University policies and procedures as outlined in the Residential and Student Handbooks.

Supervision and Staff Development

  • Attend mandatory RD training in early August and at the beginning of each semester.
  • Assist in the ongoing training, supervision, and evaluation of student staff (RAs).
  • Assist and coordinate ongoing staff training through team building activities, professional development workshops, and other programs with other RDs and the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC).
  • Coordinate bi-weekly meetings with assigned building RAs.
  • Meet twice a month with assigned building RAs.
  • Meet bi-weekly with the Residence Life Coordinator.

Administration

  • Complete appropriate paperwork for student occupancy, including room condition forms, roommate agreements, and housing contracts.
  • Participate in the annual Room Draw in the spring (2 3-day event).
  • Complete damage and cleaning assessment of each apartment within RD’s area at the end of the semester and year.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Residence Life staff to open and close the halls at the beginning of the academic year, fall break, Thanksgiving, semester break, spring break and closing in May.
  • Must be present and participating at all move-in / closing days and assist assigned building's RAs during move-out.
  • Assist RA staff with clean-out of vacated apartments at the end of each semester or year.
  • Participate in a rotating duty schedule, approximately 3 weeks / semester providing on-call / on-duty emergency and crisis response for students and family members for the entire residential community.
  • Communicate building needs and preventive maintenance projects with facilities personnel and the Resident Life Coordinator.
  • Initiate / generate and follow-up on online maintenance requests.
  • At least twice a week walk through every floor of assigned building to check for maintenance issues.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with facilities personnel.
  • Follow-up on minor conduct situations in an educational and timely manner with appropriate documentation : initiate incident reports and referrals.
  • Respond to extraordinary incidents that may occur in assigned building or other areas of Lourdes Commons.

Programming

  • Supervise / coordinate at least two (2) student programs per semester as a part of the Res Life Skills Series.
  • Provide resources and referrals to students and family members.
  • Refer all counseling concerns to appropriate resources and maintain thorough documentation.
  • Report any suspected violations of Title IX to the Title IX Administrator.
  • RDs are "Responsible Employees" and must report any known or suspected Title IX violation.
  • Work collaboratively with the Coordinator for Residence Life and Community Standards and the VP of Student Affairs to follow through on conduct procedures.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION :

Compensation

If you are not a registered graduate student, you will receive minimum wage for hours worked. In addition, each RD will receive compensation for this live-in position to include a fully furnished apartment with utilities and Wi-Fi internet service and a meal plan (10 meals per week during the fall and spring terms while the dining hall is open, and classes are in session).

The meal plan can only be used in the dining hall. The RD will have access to assigned apartment year-round if they are employed as a Lourdes University RD the following academic year.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Individuals must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and rotating holidays.
  • Residing in an on-campus apartment is a requirement.
  • This is a part-time (approx., 80 per month position) allowing for individuals to hold other employment or complete an advanced degree.
